Zostel Varkala is a backpacking hostel by the beach in Varkala, Kerala, a town full of backpackers & free-spirited travellers. It offers sea view from all rooms & balconies, chic interiors, a happening crowd, and a bustling rooftop to socialise. A pastel green and blue building with a horde of coconut trees on three sides and the Arabian Sea in the front, Zostel Varkala is a backpacking hostel dotted with pretty spaces. It provides a kickass sea view from the rooftop and all the rooms. A chirpy reception welcomes you into the hostel, where you’ll be guided further with elaborate and vivid wall art that paints the lives of men and women on its salty shores. A veranda circles all the rooms here, giving you the mandatory balcony space to watch the sun go down or play a game of catch. The rooftop is a fancy business, with patio loungers and ample of spots to work, snack, paint, and create. Facilitated with mixed dorms, female dorms, and privates alike, the rooms follow a rustic wooden sense of design and tag along with windows and balconies that bring in the air and the sun. Backpackers linger over at the rooftop for an energizing game of Jenga and cards or a soothing guitar jam, keeping the vibe warm, cheerful, and very social.

Akşam 6’dan gece 12’ye kadar çok kötü bir müziği çok yüksek sesle çalarak, çığlık ata ata terasta dans ediliyordu. Öyle ki, sanki bir diskoda hoparlörün hemen altında oturuyormuşum gibiydi. Sesi kısmalarını istedim ama parti var diyerek göstermelik kıstılar. Ertesi gün yine aynıydı. Özel odanın önündeki balkon gibi olan alan herkes girip ışığı açıp takılıyordu. Çarşaf ve kılıflardan kötü koku geliyor diye değiştirmelerini istedim. Değiştirdiler ancak hala şok kötü kokuyordu. Belli ki Zostel kalitesini tamamen. Mesajlara otomatik yanıtlar veriliyor, telefon suratıma kapatılıyor, taleplerime dönüş sağlanmıyor… Hayal kırıklığı…

Only 1 hour from Trivandrum and 4 hours from Kochi with Alleppey falling on the way, Varkala is one of the rare beach towns of India, in terms of topography and charm alike. It brings with it a fine platter of beaches along with a lighthouse, a fort, and umpteen roads laced with coconut and palm trees. Surfers and parasailers make its shores an aquatic playground, whereas jolly backpackers and hippies linger over by the cliff, trying scrumptious seafood and shopping dreamcatchers. Sunrises and sunsets bring out the violets and crimsons in otherwise shy skies here, whereas night-time is a treasure trove of constellations. A quintessential trait of this town is to always smell enchanting, which is credited to the many renowned Ayurveda and Yoga centres of the country that find a home here. Varkala is neighboured by short escapes like those of Munroe & Poovar Islands, Jatayu Earth’s Centre, and Kollam, accessible by buses and rental scooters alike.
The property is a mere 15-minute ride from the railway station and sits right in between the Black Sand Beach, Varkala aquarium and Varkala Shrimp Hatchery. All of these locations are 3 minutes walk from the Hostel.
By Train - Get down at Varkala Sivagiri station. Take an auto and drop at Thiruvambady. The signage board will be on the main road. Follow the direction to reach the property.
By Bus - Get Down a Kallambalam. Hire an auto or cab or board a bus to reach Varkala Black Beach at Thiruvambadi Road. The property is at a walking distance from the bus stop.
