East Knoyle · 整套民居 · 2室3床2.0卫 · 可住5人 · Luxury barn nestled in woodland - The Byre
Wake up in this gorgeous barn conversion nestled in a beautiful private wood full of bird song and wildlife. It is the perfect get away with two lovely bedrooms plus an additional mezzanine sleeping/ play area for children. Located in the Wiltshire countryside with wonderful walks on the doorstep. Within easy reach of Shaftesbury, the beautiful gardens of Stourhead, the market town of Frome as well as Longleat Safari Park, and the World Heritage sites of Stonehenge and Bath. The Byre has recently been converted and is in a secluded area, with a private drive away from our house, so you will be undisturbed. The Byre sleeps a maximum of 4 people plus space for a further child on a floor mattress in the mezzanine area. - Bedroom one (sleeps 2) has a king sized bed with en-suite shower room. - Bedroom two (sleeps 2) can be made up as either a super-king bed or as two singles. It also has an en-suite bathroom with roll top bath. The mezzanine looks onto and across this bedroom. - The mezzanine (sleeps 1 child on a floor mattresses) is an extension of bedroom 2, accessed by a small staircase. It is a cosy space with a low ceiling (kneeling for adults) making it a perfect den space for children. It can be made up with 1 floor mattress. The mezzanine has a protected opening at one end (see photo of abacus railings) that allows children to look across bedroom 2. There is a lovely open plan and well equipped kitchen. There will be a starter hamper of milk, tea, coffee, jam, croissants and oil. There is a kitchen table that will seat up to 6 and a seating area that looks out to the wood and across the valley. There is a wood burning stove (a basket of wood is provided), plenty of games to play and a TV. The barn has wifi and USB charging points. There is an outside seating area with table and chairs. In the evenings the stars are beautifully clear. We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are the 14th globally designated Dark Sky Reserve. There is a star book and binos in the barn. Parking is beside the Byre and it is only a short walk or drive into the local village with its great little community shop and playground. There are fantastic walks, bike rides and lovely local pubs with great food! A list of some of our favourites are below. You are welcome to walk in the woods and the footpath from the Byre joins the Wessex Ridgeway. We have four kune kune pigs, who live in the woods. They are very tame and love their backs and ears being rubbed (watch out for the electric fence). In the fields, you will find our flock of hens, guinea fowl and our peacock. If you’d like to help feed the hens or collect some eggs just ask. The woods and fields around the Byre are teeming with wildlife. See if you can spot a red kite, listen out for the woodpeckers, count the endless pheasants and look out for the deer at dusk (especially the muntjac that lives in the trees by the Byre). Things to do in the area: There are tons of things to do in the area; have a day out at Longleat Safari Park, explore the ruins at Old Wardour Castle, walk up Goldhill in Shaftesbury, visit Stourhead's incredible gardens and follow their nature trails, roam around Old Sarum's castle, visit Salisbury Cathedral and take in some history with the Magna Carta. Look for an antique/bargain at the Frome Independent street market, which takes place the first Sunday of every month (Mar-Dec). For a little further afield, visit the National Trust's Kingston Lacy, the tank museum or the Fleet Arm Air museum. The Byre is only an hour away from the Jurassic coast with beaches for fossil hunters, rock pool lovers and of course sandy beaches for those that want to build castles.
We had such a lovely stay. We felt right at home, the accommodation had so much natural light, the animals were a smash hit and Sophie was an excellent host. Very close to East Knoyle and other great villages for drinks and meals.
The time spent at the byre felt outside of our intense life! Just the perfect spot to rest and retire with our 3 kids (aged 6 to 10). The kids literally loved the place, the freedom they had and the size of this natural playground … full of wild and less wild animals : rabbits, hares, deers, peacocks, …! The byre decoration is just perfect and you feel extremely welcome and so confortable in a minute! The kids literally felt in love with the byre and are fond of this freedom !! They felt amazing (and so did we) to admire so many animals! It is really a very easy house, so easy that we felt in holidays by the moment we entered! Congratulations and thank you sooo much Sophie & Gilles! We hope to come back soon !
This was a return trip to stay at the wonderful Byre and didn’t disappoint! Another relaxing and blissful weekend escape - great hospitality from Sophie & Giles and every detail taken care of. We’ll be back!
The Byre exceeded all of our expectations, it's even more beautiful than in the photo's. It was the perfect retreat for a few days away and Sophie & Giles were beyond accommodating, and we really appreciated the bubbles waiting for us on our arrival. I'm already thinking about when we can go back again as it was one of the nicest air bnb's I've stayed in and couldn't recommend it more. Sophie & Giles were fantastic hosts and the walks through the woods were just beautiful. Can't wait to come back.
We had a wonderful stay for 3 nights in school half term. The property is beautiful and a fab location. Lots of information available on arrival & Sophie was so accommodating even though we were a bit later than planned. There was also a few welcome bits & bobs which was a nice touch. The property was well equipped with everything we needed. We are a family of 6 with children aged 2, 5 & 7 and there was plenty of space. The children loved walking up to see the pigs!! Overall a very relaxing break
The Byre is the starting point for lots of lovely walks, you could walk to Hindon and have lunch at the local pub or adventure into the local village and see the views of the Blackmore Vale before having a drink at The Fox and Hounds.
The Wessex Ridgeway is a few hundred yards away. This fabulous ancient walking route heads from the coast at Axminster up to Marlborough, a total of 150 miles. The barn is perfectly situated for a couple of days of R&R while doing this walk. There are local maps and walking routes in the Byre.
East Knoyle is the birthplace of Christopher Wren, and has a pretty church, thriving village shop and playground with zip wire. We are also surrounded by great pubs; The Grosvenor Arms in Hindon, The Beckford Arms in Fonthill Gifford, Pythouse Kitchen Garden in West Hatch are just a few.
Longleat, Stourhead, Kingston Lacy and Stonehenge are nearby and wonderful days out. Shaftesbury is the local town and has a pretty high street with the legendary Gold Hill. The Frome market (the first Sunday of every month) and Salisbury Cathedral are definitely worth visiting. For hot days, you could even try some wild swimming or if you don't mind a drive, the incredible Jurassic beaches can be reached in just over an hour.
If you have come for a bit of cycling, try the rollercoaster hills past Hindon and into Fonthill. The North Dorset Trailway is only 30 minutes away and is made up of sections of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway and provides fabulous cycling for all the family.
We are not far from the A303 (main London-Cornwall road) and A350 (Bath to Poole).
The nearest train station is in the pretty village of Tisbury, with direct trains from Waterloo and Exeter.
Guests tend to drive to local pubs/restaurants as taxis are limited and would need to booked in advance.
