We had the most wonderful stay in Emmy's home. It is a large, beautiful, secluded, idyllic house in the country with lots of cosy corners, every amenity you could need, and an enormous garden with deer roaming daily to munch the apples under the apple tree. We really could not recommend staying here highly enough - our daughters loved it. Emmy was so helpful throughout our stay and was the perfect host. The house in a great part of Kent to explore, with Chiddingstone Castle literally next door and Hever Castle a few minutes' drive away. Definitely stay here!
Emmy’s house is absolutely wonderful. The house is homely and comfortable and has literally everything you need, the kitchen especially was the best well stocked kitchen with every utensil you needed, they obviously love cooking as a family. The gardens are really magical and a wonderful place to explore, relax or just stroll. The daily visit from the deer was brilliant , they loved the peanuts we gave them and it was especially nice for the grandchildren to see them so close the cats were a lovely addition too. There are some lovely walks from the house which makes it quite relaxing as you don’t always have to drive, although Hever Castle is definitely worth a visit. I have nothing negative to say about Emmy’s place at all it was a truly wonderful week.
Where to begin! Emmy is a lovely host who is responsive, flexible and very friendly. The house has been beautifully renovated and is very comfortable, but has retained the quirks and creaks that gives it character and charm. The outside space is huge and so well thought out. The little ones loved the big trampoline, and being able to keep an eye from the comfort of a hammock was a big bonus for tired parents. Oh and there were deers coming through the garden to graze and eat apples every morning and evening. The location is about as idyllic English countryside as you'll ever see with plenty of options for exploration and experiences both near and far. The homemade jams we bought from the friendly neighbour was a big highlight, along with scenic country lane drives to visit the many castles and lovely pubs. Only thing to note is that the Gatwick flight path runs above, so you can expect to hear some planes. It was never loud nor frequent enough to detract from an absolutely delightful week for all of us, and I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Chiddingstone is one of the prettiest villages in Kent, and perhaps England. It is a Tudor one-street village, and apart from the church and Chiddingstone Castle, the entire village is owned by the National Trust, which describes it as the 'best example of a Tudor village left in the country'. There is a pub, village shop and tea rooms. Hever Castle, Penshurst Place and Chartwell are all a short drive away. Sevenoaks and Tonbridge are a 20 minute drive and Royal Tunbridge Wells is 25 minutes. Central London is a 40 minute train ride away from Hildenborough station.
