Joan’s place is certainly an oasis of calm! We had a wonderful 10 nights there and loved every minute of it. The house is so spacious and homely with beautiful views out of every window. Joan was so helpful with advice about the local area and information about the house. We loved this part of Ireland and memories from this holiday will last a lifetime. Thank you Joan and family!
Very well equipped comfortable house in a beautiful area. Joan communicated in a timely manner and Anne on site was responsive. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Joan‘s place is at a beautiful peaceful spot and spacious for a family reunion or with friends. It’s secluded, with sheep and lots of green around. Thanks Joan for making us feel comfortable. We discovered the wild Atlantic and had a relaxing time, even when working remotely.
Joan is a super host with quick, friendly and clear communication. The house is just amazing! It offers everything that you need: well equipped kitchen, large bedrooms, two living rooms… ideal for us staying there with two adults and three teens. The location is perfect to explore the nearby coastline and beaches. Louisburgh is a nice village with a huge variety of cafés and restaurants as well as shops. We keep our stay in good memories and will be back one day!
If you are looking for a peaceful totally relaxed environment in Co Mayo, West of Ireland, with its natural beauty, stunning views and pure air, this is it! It is the home to many artists and when you see the light and dramatic scenery you will see why. The Wild Atlantic way trail includes Louisburgh.
We are within 1.5 km from the village with its one well stocked supermarket including freshly baked goods, a butcher and several pubs! Also a mobile fish van comes on a Friday and is well worth checking out, and a once weekly local sale of eggs preserves and breads. The petrol station on the Old Head side of the village is well stocked with food, groceries and fuel for fires.
There is a gift and art shop, an information centre in the library, several coffee shops, a brilliant bookshop.
You may have to travel further afield for evening meals as, although there are a couple of restaurants in Louisburg, they are seasonal and so we cannot guarantee that they will be open when you are there.
The local beaches are lovely safe sandy Blue Flag beaches. The nearest beach is Carrowmore beach which has its own pier. It is 3 km from the house. Two other favorite swimming beaches are Old Head, which is 5km from the house and Silver Strand, 16km from the house. Another local beach is Carrownisky which is famed for surfing ( boards for hire locally for the brave !).
There are many lovely walks and cycle trails laid out around the area. Bring your bikes!
The countryside is ideal for walkers, anglers , cyclists and climbers but is also wonderful for simple downtime and relaxation.
Bring your bikes with you so that you can cycle the many highways and byways around here! There are many cycling routes of varying difficulties, mapped out in the area; details of these can be found on-line.
