Great place to stay absolutely stunning views, lovely accommodation very well equipped spotlessly clean, very peaceful, surrounded by beautiful walks, a nice pub with plenty of charm 20 minute walk .Would highly recommend.
Little Barn is beautifully appointed and set in a lovely, peaceful location. It is very well equipped with everything you would expect from a holiday home as well as little extras such as board games and dvds. Debbie and James were perfect hosts - available to help with recommendations for places to eat (The Castle Inn at Lynford was excellent - thank you!) and the welcome basket was a thoughtful extra touch. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend.
We had a lovely short stay at The Little Barn. Debbie was a great host and the property was exactly as described with everything we could possibly have needed. We arrived to Easter eggs for the children, local honey, and helpful items for the dog, amongst other little touches which were a nice surprise. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the property and hope to stay here again 😊
What a lovely place, so quiet and peaceful. Despite visiting in March we managed to sit out, admire the view and listen to the birds. The property was immaculate, the kitchen fully equipped with all you would need. Plenty of dishwasher tablets! Loved the welcome basket with the chocolates and the vase of tulips on the table were beautiful. Comfy beds, fluffy towels and plenty of hot water. Wouldn’t hesitate in staying again. Thank you Debbie!
The Little Barn is situated in the Tamar Valley, which is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its mining history. Dartmoor with its wild open moorlands and deep river valleys is a short drive away. We are perfectly placed to explore both areas as well as Devon, Cornwall and the nearby city of Plymouth.
Tavistock, a classic West Country market town, is a 10 minute drive away. Its old streets contain an eclectic mix of small independent shops and cafes. The award winning and historic Pannier Market bustles with activity on most days of the week.
The Tamar Valley, Dartmoor and the South West is a magnet for walkers attracted by the stunning scenery, wealth of wildlife and the opportunity to get away from it all. There are several walks, direct from Little Barn, that explore the Tamar Valley's rich countryside and further afield the South West Coast Path, West Devon Way and Two Castles Trail offer amazing scenery.
Cycling around Tavistock is spectacular. Drake's Trail is a 21 mile walking and cycling starting in Plymouth and ending in Tavistock. The scenery is breathtaking. The Granite Way is an 11 mile easy to moderate mostly traffic free route through rural Devon with amazing views of Dartmoor. The Tamar Trails has 25 kms of off-road mountain biking trails for novices to committed mountain bikers. Further afield, the Camel Way and the Tarka Trail offer traffic free, mostly flat cycling.
Horse riding: Cholwell Riding Stables in Mary Tavy caters for all types of riders from complete novice to the most experienced with riding straight onto Dartmoor and no need for any road work. This allows you to enjoy your whole ride on the moor and admire its breathtaking views.
Sightseeing: Highlights include The Eden Project; Tintagel Castle; National Marine Aquarium; Lanhydrock House, Bodmin; Cotehele; Buckland Abbey; National Maritime Museum, Cornwall; Tree Surfing at the Tamar Trails Centre .
A gourmet destination
Little Barn is ideally situated to enjoy some of the best restaurants in the South West. Here are some of our favourites:
The Cornish Arms, Tavistock is currently No 14 in the 2022 Top 50 Gastropub awards. Run by Michelin star winning chef John Hooker it offers great food in a warm, cosy restaurant or in the lovely beer garden.
The Horn of Plenty, 5 minutes drive away, was recently awarded with 3 AA rosettes and offers lunch, afternoon tea and dinner cooking seasonal food to perfection.
The Annex, Tavistock is gorgeous and serves tapas inspired small plates from Pinchos to meatballs. It has an outside terrace with lovely views of Tavistock.
Endsleigh Hotel, 5 minutes drive away - an award winning restaurant set in grade 1 listed gardens and owned by hotelier Olga Polizzi aka The Hotel Inspector.
There are plenty of nearby countryside footpaths and cycling routes but you will need a car to stay at The Little Barn. Access to Little Barn is down single-tracked Devon lanes. Slow down and enjoy the abundant wildlife and beautiful hedgerows. The flora is often glorious. There is plenty of parking at the property,
