My wife wanted a taste of old Southern Maryland waterfront. Beautiful views, bed was comfortable (that rarely happens), close to friends and family. Thank you for a nice stay!
An absolute gem! Peaceful, relaxing, and within a tranquil setting. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to or needs to recharge.
Very private & quiet location. View from sunroom amazing ! Cottage well equipped & clean. Host , Angela very responsive & accommodating. Would recommend for a waterfront stay !
Excellent and informative host. The only thing she could have done better if put the fish on my line! Fish ain't biting. lol
The residential island is quiet, safe and is a true get-away. You can scare up some fun at the 4 local restaurants/bars. Swimming off the dock is wonderful, but absolutely no diving or jumping because the Potomac River is tidal, shallow and the bottom is rocky with sharp shells. Water shoes a must. Fishing is great off the dock, ask any local. No boat docking at any time...it is too dangerous and could damage your boat and hurt yourself/guests. There are 2 bikes provided to ride to the marinas/restaurants. Drink responsibly.
Once I get to Cobb Island, I don't like to leave, so you may want to also bring the majority of your personal needs, libations and groceries. The island grocery is closed for total renovations, so I suggest you come with all your provisions. The closest grocery is about 18 miles away.
The sunsets are unobstructed and entrancing, and can be seen from the year-round sunroom, deck and dock.
There are 2 AC window units that very adequately cool down the house. One of them double as a heater, too.
Use coasters on wood furniture, please. Rinse all your recycle bottles and cans every chance you get. At the end of your stay, please put bagged trash and unbagged recycle in the appropriate bin outside.
There are a smattering of spices and cooking basics, but bring your own to be sure to have what you need. There is an electric stove/oven, microwave, pots/pans, smallish fridge (no ice maker), coffee maker with a wire filter, blender, toaster and toaster oven as well as a washer/dryer.
Happy Hour is a 1940 cottage so kindly treat it accordingly, please. Please put only toilet paper down the toilet. No hygiene wipes of any kind, feminine products, etc. Old house, old pipes.
The drive from DC, Richmond or Baltimore is about 1.5 hr.
The closest towns to Cobb Island are Dahlgren, Va., 18 miles to the south, (being only 25 minutes from the Navy base, the cottage can be your short-term, "detail" home) and LaPlata, Md., 22 miles to the north. Both are on Rt. 301. Cobb Island is at the end of Rt. 254, 10 miles off Rt. 301. Consider bringing your provisions before arriving.
