Eco friendly Penthouse with 180° views of the city from its 13sqm sunny rooftop terrace, two-bedrooms, big open space living & kitchen area equipped and decorated to the highest standards. The historical building was totally rehabilitated in 2020 preserving its traditional beauty. We offer one parking spot at the property… a Truly Heaven in downtown Porto… We are a German / Brazilian couple dividing our time between Germany, Portugal and Brazil. We love coming down to Portugal to relax & recharge. With that intention in mind we created our sanctuary, that we would like to share with you when we aren’t around. When you enter the Paraiso property (which means Paradise in Portuguese) you will understand what we are talking about. This property used to be the main house of a wine-growing estate that covered the slopes north from the medieval town of Porto. As the city grew, the owners sold most of their land to develop the 19th century neighborhood of Lapa but kept the 1.700sqm of the current property. The outstanding garden includes species brought by the former owners from around the world: from Brazilian palm trees, figs & nut trees to Indonesian flowers. Beyond that you can find the old wine making presser, picnic tables, Brazilian nets where you can rest after a long day sightseeing through Porto, just reading or hearing the sounds of birds and the water from the fountain. The historical building was completely rehabilitated using a modern approach to design and materials, not only preserving the traditional beauty of the structure’s pre-existing architectural elements, like its grand stairs and skylight, but elevating and extending it using natural materials. Our Penthouse is located on the 3rd floor and was fully built using hempcrete (more on that later), local wood & stones, natural plastering & chemicals-free wall paint. Hempcrete is a natural building material made from wet-mixing hemp shiv with a lime binder. It provides a natural, vapour-permeable, fireproof and airtight insulation material, giving it a uniquely effective thermal performance. Hempcrete creates a healthy chemical-free and damp-free indoor environment with a negative carbon footprint, locking away more atmospheric carbon for the lifetime of the building than was emitted during its construction. The flat is composed of a big open space living & kitchen area where you can hangout on the sofa, enjoy Netflix or YouTube on our smart TV, cook together & exchange the stories of the day over a glass of Porto at the dinner’s table. The master bedroom has a 160x200cm comfortable bed and in-suite luxurious bathroom. The secondary bedroom extends from the living room and can be used either as a full-fledged in-suite bedroom or as an extension of the living room. It has a 140x190cm comfortable bed and access to the south facing rooftop terrace. The 13sqm rooftop terrace is blessed with sunshine the whole day and provides an amazing view from Porto’s downtown and even a slight glimpse of the ocean. It is the perfect place to enjoy a drink or have dinner under the stars. To round-up, the flat has a cozy mezzanine that can be used either as an office for remote workers or a quiet reading corner. It is accessed via a steep ladder and shall only be used by sure-footed adults. Air-conditioning and heating is provided although rarely needed due to the insulation provided by the Hempcrete. The flat is furnished and equipped to the highest standards. High speed 100Mbps WiFi is provided. One parking spot is available for the guests at the garden. The historical building doesn’t have a lift, so if you have accessibility requirements, unfortunately this might not be the place for you. The flat is located in the center of Porto and within walking distance from Trindade, the city’s main transportation hub and metro station from and towards the airport. Two blocks away from the flat you will find the metro station of Faria Guimarães crossing the old town all the way to Gaia (the other side of the river). We have one parking spot at your disposal inside the Paraiso’s gardens, so if you have your own four wheels there is no need to worry with parking. In the up-and-coming neighborhood of Lapa you will find authentic restaurants and cool cafes for a morning brunch. Walking down the Rua do Almada will take you past hip shops, small bistros and beautifully restored 19th century buildings until you reach within 15min the Praça da Liberdade, the heart of the city.
