We are asking our guests to bring their own sheets and pillow cases. Thank you for your understanding. Wolf Cabin is Wilderness Wind's smallest and most secluded cabin on the shore of Lake Armstrong. This adorable one bedroom cabin with kitchenette and kitchen table is at the end of the road and is quiet and private but has access to all the amenities of the Wilderness Wind resort. Wolf Cabin is Wilderness Wind's smallest and most secluded cabin near the shore of Armstrong Lake. This adorable one bedroom cabin with kitchenette and kitchen table is at the end of the road and is quiet and private but has access to all the amenities of the Wilderness Wind resort. The kitchen sink has a water cooler to be filled from outdoor spigot and a half refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave. Hot showers, lavatory sinks, and latrine toilets are a short walk though lovely birch woods, in the bathhouse. Down the grassy path in front is the swimming area with lakeside seating for sunset viewing, access to canoes and kayaks, and a fire pit for bonfires. This cabin is a special intimate place for a couple looking for a romantic getaway from which to base hiking and biking on the Mesabi Trail and day trip canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Shopping for apparel, outdoor gear, and local art can be found in Ely as well as some really fine quality dining experiences. Want to get away alone and get in touch with nature and your quiet side? This a great solo cabin for journaling, photography day trips, working on art or planning projects, catching up on your reading, or just plain relaxing in a beautiful natural setting.

Perfect retreat in the beautiful north woods!

Beautiful, serene, and peaceful! The Wolf lodge was very close to the activities (fire pit, lake, group kitchen, etc) but also felt private and secluded behind the trees and at the end of the road. Due to rainy weather, we did not get to do much on the lake, but we did get to enjoy a fire one evening that the host set up for us! The cabin had everything we needed (toaster, coffee pot, utensils, fridge, etc) and even some cards and games (which were much appreciated given we were stuck inside from the rain!). Host was very friendly and helpful but also allowed us our space. If we ever happen to be in the area again, would love to come back and get out on the lake!

We loved staying on Wolf cabin at wilderness winds. It was peaceful and we even took a little canoe in paddle on the lake! I would stay again.

Staying at The Wolf in Northwoods was everything we needed for a little getaway from the city. The cabin is secluded on a large lake with beautiful surroundings. There were canoes for visitor use and beach access to the lake. If you forget or miss out on bringing something for cooking, chances are the gathering area on the premises will have it. There are bathhouses which were clean and well taken care of. Lastly, the cabin is a great distance away from Downtown Ely, where you can enjoy some ice cream, beer and local shopping. We went on a few hikes in the surrounding areas too. I recommend checking out the National Forest / Boundary Waters and Bear Head State Park. Vermilion Lake was also breathtaking. I highly recommend this stay and we will be back.

One of the greatest things about Wilderness Wind is the peace and quiet of the local environment. People come to Wilderness Wind to get away from the noise of the city and to be close to nature.
From a recently published book by our neighbor to the north of us, David Okerlund:
“What makes our refuge so special is its solitude. At night the sky is crystal clear, and the only sounds you may hear is the crackle of your fire, an occasional forlorn call from a loon to its mate, and an even more entrancing high pitched wail of a grey wolf. Each sound we consider to be a priceless experience”.
We agree completely with David and others who have worked hard to build a quiet community here on Lake Armstrong. We would like everyone who visits us to experience this slice of solitude too.
Therefore, we ask that you do your part to keep Wilderness Wind quiet. Don’t bring your jetski or your bass boat with 300 hp engine. A small engine on your fishing boat is of course fine. Kids should make noise (or they wouldn’t be kids!) so we’re not trying to stifle fun but we do want everyone to respect the quiet that emerges at the end of every day for all to enjoy.
