The Strawbale Bothy is made from simple, natural materials; wood, clay, straw and lime, there are no nasty chemicals, no concrete, and where we have had to use plastic, it is to an absolute minimum. It's the perfect place for a spring break, the straw walls make it super cosy. Built just for two, feel free to kick off your shoes and coorie in after a bracing walk in the sea air or though misty glens. The Bothy sits high above the croft where I also run a cut flower business, keep hens and honeybees. Outside the Bothy there are seats to soak in the view, watch the passing sail boats and listen to the sound of the birds and the peace & quiet. You're welcome to wander the garden or croft to enjoy the flowers or say hello to the free ranging hens. But probably best to leave the bees to themselves. We’re sure you will love the feel of staying in a natural home. So many guests have remarked how quiet and peaceful the Bothy is. The softness of the clay plastered walls seem to envelop you in a big hug. Inside you'll find everything you'd expect. There is a light and airy living area with a comfy sofa, armchair and electric stove. There's a Bluetooth speaker, books and games to keep you entertained if you ever get bored of the stunning views over to the hills of Knoydart. There is a small kitchen area with induction hob, combination microwave oven, washer dryer and all the other things you would expect to find. In the bedroom you will find a cosy box bed, dressed with a duck down duvet, soft, relaxed French linen and Egyptian cotton. From your bed you can stare at the stars at night or watch the sunrise in the morning. You also have a spacious ensuite shower room with standard flush toilet. The Strawbale Bothy is exactly what it says, it is a loadbearing straw bale building built on foundations made from car tyres filled with rammed gravel. We’ve tried to make sure this wee building has as low an impact on the planet as possible and built from natural, healthy materials. We have not used any concrete in its construction and practically everything can be recycled or is biodegradable. I aim to reduce our use of single use plastic. There are solid soap and shampoo bars from local Skye businesses. refillable washing up liquid, laundry detergent, cotton dish cloths, tea towels and shopping bags, beeswax wraps and natural bristle washing up brushes. You'll also find a selection of containers if you wish to use our local refillable eco shops. If it sounds like I'm quite proud of the Bothy, it's because I am! It was a lot of hard work to build it, but now, every time I step into it I smile. The views from the Bothy are simply stunning and because of this, I love to share it with others, so they can enjoy it too. I do hope you decide to come and stay.
