Our stay here was exactly what we were looking for. The quiet 55+ community was close to trail heads for the Saguaro National Park (East) and other hiking trails as well. The small condo was well equipped with everything we needed and Peggy (host/owner) communicated with us to be sure we had settled in and had everything right from the start. We took advantage of the Academy Village Center activities including yoga, stength and balance classes, swimming pool and pickleball courts. We found the people in the community were friendly and met some nice people. The Safeway shopping stores were 5-6 miles away and downtown Tucson is a 25 minute drive but not difficult. We can highly recommend this spot for 2 people looking for a place out of the way but still with lots of activities close by.

Loved my stay at Peggy’s townhome. She was a wonderful host! Academy village is a beautiful neighborhood, about a half hour drive to central Tucson. Very close to Saguaro National Park. What I enjoyed most at the townhome was waking up early to the bird sounds and having coffee on the patio while watching the sun come up.

"Desert Retreat" is aptly named. It is a great place to unwind for a week or a month or a winter. From the patio, you get a great view of the Rincon Mountains, in addition to the ravine just beyond the property. I saw a coyote, a jackrabbit and a javelina in the strip of land behind the townhomes. Many species of birds inhabit the area, including cactus wrens, quail, cardinals, hawks and others. The home itself has plenty of room for two. It can sleep four (two on the convertible sofa), but I think that would be a little crowded. The kitchen and bathroom are both very nice and well stocked with pretty much everything you might need. In case you didn't know, Academy Village is a retirement community for people 55+. As such, it includes amenities like a gym, tennis court, pool, spa, fitness center, activity room, etc. A weekly newsletter describes activities and events such as hikes, movies, concerts, dinners. happy hour and much more.

This is our third stay at Peggy's place. We travel through southern Arizona for a month and like finishing up with a few days at Peggy's as a good place to chill out and do some hiking before returning home.
