In the middle of a countryside full with olive and cork trees, 2,8 km from the asphalt road, Figueirinha Ecoturismo is almost self-sufficient energy wise thanks to its solar panels. The biological swimming pool has 23 different species of plants. Frogs and other animals from the local fauna inhabit the waters, along with the owners and guests. The garden is an haven, especially in July and August, the hottest months. At Figueirinha Ecoturismo guests are treated as friends, so welcome! Figueirinha Ecoturismo is a small property—a little less than 2 hectares (or 5 acres)—with olive trees, organic farming, a main house, an outbuilding and a natural swimming pool. The main house is where you can find the central kitchen and living room, as well as our own room and a room to rent, at the other end. We call this room Forno (oven) because it shares a thick wall with our outside wood-fired oven. An outbuilding was erected to accommodate more guests. It’s the Casa Nova (new house), which has two rooms, Serra (mountain) and Ribeira (brook). These rooms share a connecting door that will be available when needed. Please check our listing "Casa Nova" if that's what you want. In addition to the double bed, we can provide an extra bed (15 €) or a crib (10 €). As well as Ribeira, the Serra room has its own bathroom and kitchen, with dishwasher, fridge, microwave and kettle. Furthermore, Serra is equipped to receive people with reduced mobility. Thanks to its location within the borders of the National Ecological Reserve, Figueirinha is granted the silence and tranquility of an off the beaten track refuge, even in the busy months of July and August. Still, it’s only 25 minutes away from the most beautiful and wild beaches of Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast. In spite of its rurality, all needs are fulfilled and comfort was not left aside. Our solar panels assure complete energy self-sufficiency. You may ride our mountain bikes for free, hike on trails close by, swim in our natural pool or use our volleyball field. The nearest hamlet, Monte da Estrada, is a half hour walk. There, the audacious can try the typical "café com cheirinho" (espresso coffee with a sip of "aguardente", a kind of pomace brandy). More typical villages, including São Luís, Vila Nova de Milfontes and Odemira, are easily reached by car. Figueirinha is a perfect spot for those who want a restorative retreat to clean both body and soul. Yet, there’s also room for gastronomic gatherings based on Mediterranean food. We produce our own vegetables and buy our other food items in local markets or from fair trade organizations. The same principles were applied on our furniture, fixtures or bedlinen. Come visit us and meet the simplicity of Alentejo’s nature with a familiar and friendly touch.
Not only was the accommodation excellent but the food and hospitality far exceeded my expectations. Alexander and Paula made me feel so welcome, (despite me arriving early!), and were wonderful hosts in every way. I had booked Figueirinha as a place to stay where I could relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside in a tranquil setting and that was exactly what I experienced. I hope I will be able to return sometime in the future to enjoy being with such wonderful people whilst staying in such a charming place.
If you own a car there is free parking. For long-term rentals, we can provide some rides to go shopping and we also have free bikes
自我介绍
We are Paula and Alexandre and both of us have been working for newspapers and magazines for more than two decades. We have lived in Mozambique, France, Belgium and Portugal. In the 1990s, our life and work went on in or near Lisbon. By that time, we were also looking for a nice place to buy a country home. We always shared a passion for Alentejo and that's where we found Figueirinha. The property was just a rough terrain with little more than a ruin but it was love at first sight. Along the years and with the help of good friends, we patiently restored the main house respecting its original character in the traditional southern Portugal architectural style. We've always liked to entertain guests, so on our weekends we gathered family and friends to spend our time restoring the house, setting the terrain for farming, preparing big meals and enjoying some beach time. More than fifteen years later, we decided we should share our beloved property with tourists from afar and we started building on another ruin down the land, this time with the precious help of an architect and some local crafters. In 2012, we finally opened Figueirinha Ecoturismo. We're still writing for magazines and running a publisher but our heart and soul have focused more and more on this spot of paradise in southern Portugal. We share with our guests a great love for travelling. We've been on big trips to Cape Verde, Oceania, the US from coast to coast, Brazil, the African continent, and on smaller trips all over Portugal and Europe. Alexandre has also travelled in China. We love—and have written about—aircraft and automobiles, sustainable economy and slow food, Africa and African music, white sand beaches, sunsets and gin and tonic. Paula loves cooking too. Our old cat Minux has lived with us since he was a small kitty and he's been enjoying his last years in the wild around Figueirinha, returning every evening to shelter in the coziness of his home corner.
