Hospitality is a thousand percent and i will surely comeback everytime i have tour in the Philippines.
I don’t like writing not-so-good reviews, but this was probably our worst Airbnb experience so far. When I booked the place, I messaged the host that I will be arriving late as I will be coming from a wedding. I’ve also put in 2 guests. Hours before check in, I messaged on Airbnb to get details about the location since the map pin here on Airbnb is inaccurate and the address was incomplete. I was told to text a mobile number. Not recommended for international travelers without a local number. After texting the number, we were told to find the first corner lot on the left, although this was still vague. I spent at least 20 minutes walking around wearing a bridesmaid’s dress trying to find the place. When we arrived at a house that we suspected was the Airbnb, the caretaker did not welcome us and instead went inside the house and turned all the lights off. We were left outside super confused while 3 dogs bark at us. I had to send a text again and knock for 5 minutes before the caretaker finally opens the door of the house (but not the gate). When she talked to us it seemed like she had no idea that we’re coming, which just made us even more confused since the house had no indication of being an Airbnb whatsoever (and at this point we are still unsure whether we got the right house or not). She then told us that she was expecting only one guest, and continued to be unwelcoming. She then started interrogating us with unnecessary questions and comments, and asked for my partner’s ID (this was his first time in the country, btw). I understand that this is a security protocol, but this is already available in Airbnb. We both have verified profiles, and if the host had decent communication with her caretaker then this shouldn’t have to happen. After all that, we were able to finally check in. The place is nice, and has the basics that you need (has wifi and TV too). It feels very homey. I won’t categorize it as “entire apartment” though. It’s not detached to the caretaker’s house at all. The only thing separating us from the caretaker is a door. I think this should be listed as a private room instead. I do think that this Airbnb has potential with great value for the price you pay. Although, the caretaker and the host should keep in mind that the guests are *paying* guests and not just random people begging for a place to stay. Improve communication, fix inaccurate information, put in more detailed directions, and have a better check in process. Try to minimize interaction with the caretaker.
