Ocean View is a stunning air-conditioned self-catering holiday house offering a sweeping panorama of beautiful Vivonne Bay, with the acclaimed beach just minutes’ walk away. The décor is modern with a bright and airy ambience. There are two queen bedrooms and a bunkroom with four single beds. The fully equipped kitchen includes an espresso coffee machine. Free WiFi and Foxtel satellite TV are provided along with a Bluetooth stereo system to fill the house with music. Wildlife abounds. “Best view in Vivonne Bay” (guest review headline). “This property arguably the best positioned in the Vivonne Bay township” (Century 21). The standout feature of Ocean View is the stunning 180-degree panorama sweeping around from Nobby Islet and Cape Gantheaume in the east to Point Ellen and the jetty in the west (latter illuminated at night along with the beacon at Point Ellen). Watching waves crash high against Point Ellen can be mesmerising. Also experiencing gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and viewing the startling night sky and Milky Way from our deck (no light pollution). Ocean View offers all the comforts of home including reverse-cycle ducted air-conditioning and a fully equipped kitchen including new Miele appliances, large fridge/freezer, microwave oven, new cookware and cutlery and an espresso machine with ground coffee supplied. An electric frypan and rice cooker are also available. Free WiFi is included, taking advantage of broadband Internet available in Vivonne Bay. Also Foxtel satellite TV for streaming news channels, entertainment channels and movies (plus recorded programs stored in the library). A Bluetooth sound system provides smartphone connectivity for playing your favourite music. The open-plan living area includes an 8-seat acacia dining setting offering picture window views of Vivonne Bay, and a lounge area with twin settees, coffee table and large widescreen smart TV. Our three bedrooms provide options for one or two couples or a large family with kids (or adults) in the bunkroom. The queen beds are fitted with dual-control electric blankets along with MiniJumbuk wool quilts for cosy winter nights. Extra pillows and blankets are available. An infant cot with change table can be set up on request along with a high chair. Our elevated and illuminated deck is equipped with a table setting and versatile 3-burner gas BBQ. A great spot for morning coffee and alfresco meals as well as enjoying the expansive view and observing the diverse wildlife that inhabits the surrounding coastal reserve. Wallabies visit frequently and fairywrens hop around on the deck. Honeyeaters love perching on their own driftwood stick. Silvereyes enjoy splashing in our birdbath. Bold little striated pardalotes are prevalent in spring and summer, flitting in & out of nests we have installed under our eaves. Access to the house at night is facilitated by dual infrared sensors that control LED lights above the driveway and along the side walkway and deck. The steps leading down to the pristine beach are just 100 metres away with no intervening properties. The ocean is so close you will often be lulled to sleep by the sound of breaking waves. We are pleased to share our lovely home with guests of Airbnb. We began operating Ocean View as a holiday house in late 2017 and our guestbook is filled with highly complimentary comments from guests who have travelled from near and far.
Ocean View was indeed that. Fantastic views out over the sea and located a few minutes walk down to a lovely, if windswept beach. Though not your lavish beachside accommodation, and in places showing its age, our stay at Ocean View was nevertheless a good one. We were a group of three and though there was bedding for more, we’d have thought 2 to 4 people would be a good number of people to visit given Ocean View’s size. An excellent kitchen enabled us to cook all our meals there. The visiting wildlife were a treat. Ian was an excellent communicator and very helpful host, thus making our stay all the more enjoyable. It’s a perfect spot from which to explore the western end of the island.
We had a lovely five days here…the house perfectly positioned with 180 degree views over the ocean and coast. Just a five minute walk to the beach itself. A really good place to explore the rest of Kangaroo Island from. Great communications with the hosts you make sure we had settled in well. The house had everything we needed for a great stay. Thanks.
A truly fabulous place! Spacious, clean in a gorgeous setting. Various wildlife visited daily, including beautiful birds and wallabies. Easy walk to the beach and within a half hour drive to the national park. Agree with Ian that stopping at the grocery store in Penneshaw is a must for food and toiletries. The nearby general store has basic necessities, but not enough for real meals. (Their halloumi sandwiches are the bomb!)
Ocean View is set on the edge of coastal reserve in the small township of Vivonne Bay, which itself is set close to the beach amongst lush coastal vegetation full of wildlife such as echidnas, brushtail possums and Tammar wallabies along with numerous bird species (see uploaded photos).
Access from South Coast Road is just past the Vivonne Bay General Store which offers eat-in and takeaway food as well as dairy products, limited groceries and other supplies including diesel & unleaded petrol (not LPG).
The beautiful beach is extremely close to Ocean View and offers walks to the Harriet River and Castle Rock to the west, and the Eleanor River to the east (tide permitting).
A short drive across the Harriet River will take you to the jetty (fishing & panoramic view) and to Point Ellen (walking trail to light beacon), as well as to the Vivonne Bay Conservation Park (walking trail along the coast).
Ocean View is ideally located between Kangaroo Island’s major tourist attractions with Raptor Domain and Seal Bay lying to the east, and Kelly Hill Caves, Admiral’s Arch, Remarkable Rocks and Flinders Chase National Park to the west. KI Wildlife Park, Stokes Bay and Hidden Beach lie to the north.
You will need a vehicle to travel to Vivonne Bay from the ferry terminal at Penneshaw (~70 minutes), or from the airport near Kingscote (~40 minutes) - and for accessing local attractions.
Please drive carefully, watching out for wildlife especially in the evenings.
自我介绍
I am a retired rocket scientist (yes really) and along with my wife, operate Ocean View and another holiday house at Vivonne Bay on the south coast of Kangaroo Island. We visit frequently to maintain and improve our properties for guest use, and to enjoy the tranquillity and wildlife offered by the island. Favourite travel destinations in addition to Kangaroo Island are remote places such as the Arctic, Antarctica, Patagonia and the Australian Outback. Favourite music is the repertoire of Fiona Joy Hawkins, an amazing Australian composer, pianist and vocalist. We are pleased to share Ocean View with Airbnb guests. The 180-degree panorama of Vivonne Bay is stunning and is complemented by the comfort of our lovely home.
