Our vacation rental property is in the quiet, historic district of Rockland. The homes on the street are some of the largest in the city in what was Rockland’s “exclusive” neighborhood in Victorian times. There are over 140 homes listed on the National Registry in Rockland and it is great fun to walk the side streets and appreciate the architecture of years gone by. The Rockland Talbot House is walking distance to Rockland's downtown shops, restaurants, museums and harbor but away from the traffic and noise of busy Route 1.
Rockland is a very walk-able city and most of our guests enjoy being able to walk to dinner and the shops. Rockland as the geographic center of Midcoast Maine, is located halfway between Portland and Bar Harbor which makes it a great location for convenient day trips to explore the nearby islands, rugged coast, quaint coastal towns and fabulous parks like Acadia National Park.
Probably what we like most about Rockland is that it is very “authentic”. It has a working harbor; the shops and restaurants downtown serve the locals and visitors alike; people are real and are friendly; it has a blue-collar authenticity and is definitely not pretentious. Maine is mostly small businesses, small artisans and small farms – the fabric and the success of our community relies on small businesses working together and Rockland exemplifies this. There is so much to do in the area, both inside and outside, so you can keep as busy as you would like regardless of the weather! We can provide you with sample menus of restaurants, maps, and activity brochures. We will also help you as much as you would like with your daily plans. Having lived in Rockland for over 20 years and in the hospitality business for all of this time, we have built very strong relationship with local businesses and many of the local museums, restaurants and recreational activities offer our guests special offers or deals.
The owners purchased the property in 2014 and are restoring the home to its original 1850 grandeur. We work on the inside of the property in the winter months when the building is closed to guests. In the summer, we focus on finishing the exterior painting to make the building a showplace. There is no need to worry about any inconvenience by any construction noise.

While Rockland is a very walkable city, there are cabs available for about $5-7 anywhere within the City limits. There is a place downtown to rent bicycles. You can get here by plane, train (coming summer 2019) and automobile.... Also, effective for the summer 2018, Rockland has public transportation called “The Dash” that takes people around town, to the hospital, grocery stores and Wal-Mart and many places in between.
AIRPORTS: Knox County Regional Airport (RKD) – 5 miles (10 minutes) from us, offers service 3 to 5 times daily by Cape Air from Boston and affiliated with Jet Blue. Portland International Jetport (PWM) – 80 miles (1.5 hours) from us is the largest airport in Maine. This route is easy to navigate to Rockland even late at night. Bangor International Airport (BGR) – 65 miles (2 hours) north of us. This can sometimes be a difficult drive to Rockland as you are on less traveled roads without a lot of street lights or signage.
BUS: Concord Trailways Bus Service from Boston to Rockland twice daily. Recently more direct services connecting to NY have been added. The Terminal is located at the end of Talbot Avenue about 2.5 blocks from the property.
TAXIS/DRIVER SERVICES: Hit the Road Driver Service, Midcoast Limo, Schooner Bay Taxi, or Joe’s Taxi. Some offer Airport Service and $5-$7 cab fare in and around town.
RENTAL CARS: Budget Rental (Knox Airport), Enterprise, U-Save Auto Rental
TRAIN: Amtrak DownEaster Train service from Boston is slated for service to Rockland beginning late spring/summer 2019.
