Destination Arusha
Kundayo Serviced Apartments Lodge is located just three kilometers northeast side of Arusha city centre. The City of Arusha is the regional capital and the largest city in the Arusha Region. Surrounded by some of Africa’s most famous natural attractions, it has earned a reputation as the safari capital of East Africa due to its proximity to a wide range of wildlife sanctuaries. Arusha is branded as Tanzania’s “Tourist Mecca’’ and is considered to be a gateway and natural stopover for foreign visitors wanting to explore Africa’s wildlife heritage – the Serengeti, Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, Olduvai Gorge, Arusha National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro. The famous Rift Valley cuts right through the middle of the region from north-to-south, whilst Oldonyo Lengai (Mountain of God in Maasai language) is an active volcano to the north of Ngorongoro. Altitudes vary widely throughout the region, predominantly ranging from 900 to 1600 meters (3,000 to 5,500 feet in elevation).
Mt. Meru, the second highest mountain in Tanzania after Kilimanjaro, peaks at 4,655 meters, and it is nestled under the foothills of Mt. Meru that you will find this beautiful city.
Economic activities in the region are diversified between tourism, trading and commerce, banking, agriculture, food processing and the manufacturing of goods. Arusha is also a major international diplomatic hub, hosting the headquarters of the East Africa Community, Pan African Court of Human Peoples’ Court, and other many major international organizations.
The City of Arusha maintains a very pleasant climate throughout the year. Its elevation of 1,400 meters on the southern slopes of Mount Meru means it keeps relatively cool year round, even becoming rather chilly at night particularly during the dry season from early June to mid October. The temperature ranges between 13°C and 30°C with an average of around 25°C, with very low humidity.

With easy access to the Arusha-Moshi Highway, Kundayo Serviced Apartments Lodge keeps you close to the pulse of the city and nearby attractions. Whist nestled away in a peaceful residential area, Kundayo is only a five minute drive (or thirty minute walk) from the heart of Arusha’s City Centre and central business area, famous for its local attractions, curio shops, coffee shops, vibrant nightlife, restaurants and pubs.
Commuting Around Arusha
Taxis (Cab): Taxis are plentiful, safe and cheap; make sure to agree on a price before leaving for your destination (expect to pay around Tzs 6,000 (US$ 3.75/-) for a trip within the city centre such as Clock-Tower, Central Market and to other nearby places, or Tzs 20,000 (US$12.50/-) for the immediate outskirts, at any time of the day). During night hours the charges may be a slight higher.
Expect waiting charge to apply after 20 – 30 minutes!
Car Hire: You can arrange to hire a car during your stay here in Arusha. A range of car hire companies operate within the city, however most companies prefer to provide their own drivers for long distance driving outside the city.
All self-drive in Tanzania need to have a valid International or Tanzanian driving license.
City Buses: To commute around the city centre and to the nearby suburbs of Arusha, you can catch smaller minibuses locally known as Dala-Dala; you can catch the Dala-Dala by flagged down from the side of the road, they sometimes crowded and can be driven erratically. Very often Dala-Dalas engages in accidents with serious consequences for passengers. When boarding Dala-dala please be aware that pick-pocketing can happen to you so quickly, it always happen for both visitors and locals, you should always store valuables on backpack on your lap.
They are very cheap, charging between Tzs 400/- (US$0.25/-) for the main routes in town or Tzs 800/- (US$0.50/-) for the route going far out from city to the places such as Tengeru, USA-River, Nduruma, Ngaramtoni, Kikatiti, Maji-ya Chai, and Kisongo.
Boda-Boda Motorbike Taxi: Taking Boda-Boda could be cheap, fast, but dangerous! For drivers and passengers alike, taking boda-boda can be risky, but there are few alternatives where you can consider especially when heading to the villages. Always be aware that riding on a boda-boda is dangerous, particularly when passing through main roads or on heavy traffic and when riding on the wrong side of the road.
