Dural is an orchard, nursery and hobby farm area. It is not unusual to be forced to give way to horses! It is very popular as a weekend drive destination.
Houses here are more like hobby farms and farm animals are a common sight within properties while driving in the local area. Streets are rural and there is plenty of greenery to make you feel nice and relaxed.
Settled since 1817, following the arrival of timber-cutters. ‘Dooral’ means smoking hollow log in the local language of the Darug people. Descendants of the early settlers continue growing fruit and flowers for sale on road side stalls. Kate Granville’s ‘The Secret River’ sets the scene of the early settler time period.
Dural is a fifteen to twenty minutes drive north east of Castle Hill and a 20 minute drive west from Hornsby. You will need your own car to be able to get around Dural or you can catch a bus to the nearest bus stop which is a 20 minute walk to the property
Bus transport into the city takes about one hour with a 10 minute drive to the bus stop. Alternatively train travel time is about 50 minutes with a 20 minute drive to either Hornsby or Cherrybrook station.
