One of the oldest houses in the township, the 1823 Catskill Turnpike House is located on the border of Delhi and East Meredith, close to Bloomville and Bovina Center. We are 20" minutes away from the Cooperstown All-Stars Baseball Village, 35" from the Cooperstown Dreams Park, and 15" from the SUNY Delhi and Oneonta college campuses. Filled with antiques, books, and art, the home has three bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry/laundry room, and a screened-in porch adjacent to an open-air deck. All mattresses, toiletries, bedding and linens are of excellent quality. We provide fast, 75/75 fiberoptic wifi as well as a landline. The house, porch and deck have stunning views of the ponds and the surrounding rolling farmland. There are 2 acres of groomed, park-like land to roam, and a crystalline pond to swim in, with it's very own natural waterfall. The sizeable main bedroom has a full en suite bath with an antique cast iron soaking tub, a large, down-filled linen sofa, a soapstone wood-burning stove (and unlimited firewood), a closet and dresser for storage, and a table and chairs for eating and working. The bed has a natural latex mattress. The second, "children's" bedroom can also accommodate two adults, as its two extra-long twin beds convert to a single king-size bed. It is wallpapered with vintage Sanderson wallpaper. The third bedroom has a double bed as well as a daybed that can also function as a single bed. This bedroom has a full en suite bathroom, which can also be made accessible to the second bedroom by opening a second door to the hallway. A third full bath off the dining room has a shower for rinsing off after a swim. The screened-in porch features a full size hanging bed that is also available for sleeping. Finally, two antique single campaign beds (with mosquito nets) are available for those who prefer to sleep under the stars. The kitchen has slate flagstones, an Italian Ilve range, Miele dishwasher, refrigerator, soapstone countertops and sink, and an antique oak work table. The dining room seats 8, and features an antique Transylvanian bench, an American Sheraton table and chairs, an oak Arts and Crafts sideboard. A sitting area offers rocking chairs, bookcases, and stunning valley views. The living room features a wood -burning fireplace, bookcases, comfortable seating, and a desk for working. You'll find a flat screen monitor stashed in the armoire. The pantry houses a full-size LG washer/dryer, along with room for storage. The upstairs hallway is a reading area with pillows and a bookcase full of classic children's literature. The living room opens onto a screened-in porch with a full-size handing bed (perfect for warm nights), wicker chairs and love seat, jute carpeting, and a drop-leaf table for eating out-of-doors. The porch opens out to an open air deck, which can be separately accessed from the dining room. The deck has a market umbrella that provides shade for a table and chairs, 2 chaise lounges, and a Weber charcoal grill for barbecuing. The two spring-fed ponds--one small, and one large--are connected by a delightful natural waterfall, a magnet for children and adults alike. The larger pond, surrounded by weeping birches, is perfect for swimming. There are some excellent restaurants in easy distance: Hollow and Eighty Main in Delhi, and Brushland Eating House in Bovina Center. Delhi lunch spots include Blue Bee, Hollow Coffee Shop, and the Delhi Diner. Also in Delhi, you can't beat the fresh artisanal bread, pastries, and rolls made at Baker's Grimm (ask for the crocodile bread). A bit past Delhi, the Hamden Inn has great burgers and a lively bar scene. You can pick up provisions in Delhi--we recommend Good Cheap Food, a wonderful organic and health food store with terrific produce. Foodies will want to visit Alison Roman's upscale grocery store, First Bloom, minutes away in Bloomville, where the Catskill Rail Trail begins. A former railway bed, the Rail Trail stretches from Bloomville all the way to Roxbury, and is ideal for hiking and biking. Just up the road and within walking distance, Skyhold Ranch offers horseback trail rides through breathtaking scenery. Also recommended is the Hanford Mills Museum, routes 10 and 12 in nearby East Meredith (tel. 800/295-4992). This restored farmstead of 16 historic buildings features a spectacular working water-powered sawmill. Catskill Turnpike House was built from wood sawn at Hanford Mills 200 years ago. For skiiers, we are 45" from Plattekill Mountain, and 60" from Belleayre and Hunter Mountains. And there are terrific sledding hills on either side of the house.
