Doc’s cottage on Wilke Lake was a perfect spot to spend our week visiting family and attending our nephew’s wedding. The views of the lake and the sunsets were stunning. Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn’t too cooperative, so our first few days were chilly and wet which also made the cottage damp and chilly too. However, after reaching out to MaryJo, she explained that the heat wasn’t working (as it’s primarily a summer cottage) but there were space heaters in the each room we could use to warm up the place. That’s all it took to make it more cozy and comfortable. It’s not a fancy place, but it has pretty much all you need. My only suggestion would be that you buy bottled water, as the tap water was very metallic tasting. We really love this location and hope we get the opportunity to stay at the lake again during the summer.

Doc’s Hideaway is a great place to relax and unwind. The location is fantastic; being right on the water and being able to jump right in for a swim, hop in the peddleboat or canoe that come with the cabin, or use one of the many water toys that Mary Jo has available in the boathouse. We visited for Labor Day weekend and even on a holiday weekend the lake was not too busy, very peaceful and had no bugs! The only thing I would note is that the lake is very shallow, but our dog loved the shallow water because she’s not much of a swimmer and enjoys just standing in it. The house was clean and full of everything we needed and then some! Fun fact: I proposed to my Fiancé here!

Had a great stay with my wife and dog on Wilke Lake. So peaceful and had great amenities, and the lake access was perfect. Really was exactly what we were looking for and needed. And dog friendly was key as our goldendoodle had so much fun swimming all weekend! Hope to stay here again!

The door lock is a very old style, looks like a deadbolt but works like a doorknob. I closed the door behind me and was locked out of the house. The AC is a portable unit that is completely inadequate for the size. The 3rd day the vent hose fell out of the window because it was only duct taped. With the sun beating on it all day it just let go and was blowing super heated air into the room, also leaving the open window uncovered. Found only one pot for cooking, took a day to locate the rest of the silverware.
