History: The oldest part of Little Farm dates back to the 15th century, prior to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558–1603), and is one of the original houses that formed the small hamlet of Pury End. The Parish of Paulerspury technically lies astride the modern day A5 trunk road and the settlement grew as a staging post along this important Roman road, also known as "Watling Street". Six hundred years after the fall of Roman Britain, Paulerspury is mentioned and described in the Domesday book, where it is referred to as "Pirie". This later became extended to Paveli's Pery (a reference to one of the principal products of the village, pears), before being reduced to Paulerspury. In Elizabethan times, the village of Paulerspury was important because the Lord of the Manor, Sir Nicholas Throckmorton, was a principal advisor to Queen Elizabeth. Sir Nicholas's sister, also named Elizabeth, caused a great deal of scandal at the time by marrying the Queen's favourite, Sir Walter Raleigh, in secret and without royal approval. During World War II, the small hamlet was hit by a stray bomb. Several houses were damaged – Manor Farm, Little Farm, the Bricklayers' Arms pub and the Primitive Methodist Chapel (now known as "Old Chapel Cottage").
