In Borrego Springs, visitors can discover a vibrant community of shops and galleries. The community’s roots stretch back to 1774, when Juan Bautista de Anza traveled through the valley searching for a land route to the California coast and the Butterfield Coach helped pioneer the Western United States.
The centerpiece of the region is the 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California's #1 State Park, according to National Geographic. The Santa Rosa Mountains soar 6,000 feet over the desert floor. The region is rich with hiking trails, wildflowers, desert flora and fauna, mesas, buttes, and canyons. Sweeping desert vistas, secluded palm groves, and little-known Native American village sites are ready for discovery. There are fascinating traces of lost civilizations to explore, with more than fifty Native American rock art sites, petroglyphs and pictographs.
