The location we propose is intended for those who aim for a stay full of peace and tranquility, and where they can taste the ancient flavors of typical Tuscan dishes. A relaxing holiday, where you can feel at ease with others and with yourself, forgetting the noise of sirens, horns, etc. However, being an old house without devices against architectural barriers, it is not advisable for disabled people or people who may have difficulty climbing stairs, nor for small children. "Rifugio del Borgo Antico" is a three-roomed house located in the historical centre of a medieval village in the Tuscan Maremma. Upon entering, one ascends a small staircase that leads to a living room with a fireplace lit by two windows and a skylight, with an adjoining large dining area. The living room leads to a double bedroom in which there is also a loft room - max. height 176 cm - with another double bed. We would like to point out, for our guests, that this second room can be used with the precaution of paying attention to the old beams at the sides of the bed, positioned well below the maximum height. Also from the living room, but on the opposite side, there is access to a kitchenette and a windowed bathroom with toilet bidet and double shower.

Monteverdi Marittimo is a medieval village founded by the Lombards and therefore with a very ancient history behind it, located in Maremma. Also the crossroads of the Knights Templar, Monteverdi Marittimo's historic centre, where the 'Rifugio del Borgo Antico' is located, is composed of characteristic Tuscan stone houses.
From Monteverdi you can reach the coast in a few minutes, with the beautiful beaches and the blue sea of Baratti (where you can also find the Etruscan Park) and Populonia, the Etruscan Coast and, a little further down, Punta Ala and Cala Violina.
If, on the other hand, you love culture and history, you can visit villages that are incredibly characteristic for their history and culture and known all over the world, such as Bolgheri, Suvereto (a Unesco heritage site), Campiglia Marittima with its fortress dating back to the year 1000, but also its mines that you can cross on a little yellow train. Or other medieval villages such as Castagneto Carducci, Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, Volterra and the medieval jewel of Massa Marittima, and you can go as far as Siena and San Gimignano. Moreover, just a few kilometres from Monteverdi Marittimo you will find the fortified village of Canneto and Monterotondo.
Not only that, but you can enjoy a regenerating day at the thermal baths of Sassetta, no more than 10 minutes from the village. And if you love sport and trekking, we suggest a visit on foot to the ruins of the Longobard abbey on the hill opposite the village, or by bicycle. For the latter alternative, the WEELO platform offers you the possibility of renting an electric mountain bike for €4 per hour, available in the square where the InFood bar is located in Monteverdi Marittimo.
