You can see the Lake Victoria from my place and it is 25mins walk away. You will get ONE bunk space in a SHARED ROOM which: + fits 4 guests + properly ventilated with lots of sun. + there are no fans but with the windows it is quite coolling. My place is : + 25mins walk away from Lake Victoria. (which you can see from my property) + 20mins walk away frok the Mbita town centre. (where you can get all your neccessities from) + 30mins walk away from Ligongo Hills. (where you can view the entire Rusinga Island from the top of the hill). *These places are all accessible by walking or by piki-piki (motorbike taxi). + Besides that, Mfangano Island is just a 1-hour ferry ride away. (where you can see ancient rockarts and a cave humans lived in 4000 years ago). + The Ruma National Park is only roughly 30km away. (where you can see wild giraffes, zebras, rhinos, antelopes, buffalos and such) I can also hook you up with the fishermen to take you out fishing for a day. I have a corn field in my property, for those who would love to have an insight into an authentic African culture can well experience it here. I have a hammock too where you can spend a lazy afternoon. However, I only have an outdoor bathroom with 2 Turkish toilets and a shower compartment.
Sam is a welcoming host who really cares about his guests. He made us feel completely at home and we really enjoyed learning local information from him. He is doing really good work in the community by providing ECD education and selflessly serves to fulfill the needs of those around him. Sam’s place is quiet and provides guests with a good opportunity to have a break from the rush of traveling. We also enjoyed exploring Mbita town and found people there to be friendly and helpful too.
The time at Sam's house has been very nice. Sam is a nice person that makes you feel at home and we shared with him a very delicious dinner and a energy full breakfast. He also helped us in organizing our travelled to other places in Lake Victoria. We have been really lucky and the location is such amazing. Good luck Sam ALL THE BEST
Sam was helping me to travel all the way from Kisumu to travel to his place at Rusinga Island. Very kind! A very humble host with an amazingly beautiful place! I did only stay for one night because I had to travel further but we still had some time to enjoy his good food and share some thoughts and words about this world, and he also told me some of his work with his school. The house was clean and had beds with mosquito nets and shower outside. I could really have stayed for a longer period of time. Sam, thanks you very very much!
Sam was an awesome host, lovely, open minded, helpful, communicative and very inspiring! In the short time we stayed we became really good friends and it was really sad to leave. It is definitely a place where you would enjoy to stay long term!! The house is cozy and very unique! you will feel home the second you walk in :) it is a little house placed in a big garden with small trees, organic planted fruits and vegetables and a view to the lake. Sam was really helpful giving us directions and cared for us really well. He also showed us his project he works on. He is currently building a school for kids who can not afford to stay in a public school. He is always happy to have some volunteers who are willing to help :) We highly recommend to stay with Sam!! It was one of the best places in Kenya for us :)
I stayed with Sam for one night before I left for Mfangano Island. Sam's place is quiet and beautiful, with Lake Victoria just in sight and his corn field is absolutely adorable. Sam is nice, he gave me lots of advice about my trip to Mfangano Island yet gave me freedom to explore myself. I will definitely recommend anyone to stay with him. :)
I have very few neighbours, I have only a family of 10 living nearby, so its generally very quiet, only some cattles would pass by occasionally. The sunrise and sunset are amazing too which can be seen from my place.
The islander usually go everywhere on foot, but there are piki-pikis (motorbike taxis) readily available for a cheap price (50KES-200KES) that would love to bring you anywhere you want to go.
