We welcome you to our private sanctuary - our delightful Stable cottage on the farm Reedsdell, nestling below the sheer cliffs of the majestic peaks of the Southern Drakensberg - an awe-inspiring landscape with many wildflowers and a variety of birdlife & small wildlife. Enjoy the tranquility of nature or the challenging mountainous terrain. Hiking, biking, 4x4ing, fishing, walking and skiing. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). Reedsdell is a working sheep & cattle farm, located 10km from Lundeans Nek. You are part of the farming homestead but you have Stable Cottage to yourselves. Although you won't be woken up by a rooster at the crack of dawn, farming activities commence at 8am, so you will hear the quad-bike and side-by-side leaving to feed the sheep & cattle, or the tractor will be leaving to work in the lands. You are welcome to join them in the farming activities! There are farm staff that work around the homestead during the day too - your cottage is serviced daily, unless otherwise arranged.
What a wonderful experience, the host was kind enough to give us an inside look into the life of a farmer. Hopefully we will return soon – highly recommend!
What a beautiful piece of paradise. The perfect place to unwind and connect with nature. Majestic surroundings.
What a wonderful stay! Beautiful surroundings contributing to a peaceful break. Wonderful host.
We were privileged to spend three magnificent days at Reedsdell! Chris and Kath were the most gracious and generous hosts! Their cottage is beautifully appointed and had everything we could possibly want or need. And our kids has an absolute ball! We can’t wait to go back and will definitely stay for longer! We think Reedsdell may well be a piece of Heaven on Earth! Thank you Kath and Chris for sharing your magnificent cottage and farm with us!
We had a wonderful 2 nights on the farm. Despite the weather being windy and cold in the middle of June, the house felt very warm and cosy with the fireplace and undercarpet heating. The farm style kitchen had everything we needed. The shower was particularly nice. The chocolate cake and fresh milk was a welcome touch! The bedroom has lovely views of the mountains and surrounding farmlands. There is plenty to do in and around the area, we wished we had stayed longer! We would happily return to this hidden gem.
Hidden in the peaceful valleys of the Eastern Cape Drakensberg of South Africa, the remote mountain farms of Wartrail and New England provide the perfect antidote to the stresses of city life. Also known as ‘Wild Mountain Country’ the area offers a safe and relaxing escape in a pristine natural environment, far away from the madding crowds. Close to the Lesotho border the mountain scenery in the Wartrail and New England is some of the most spectacular in the region and can be explored via the stunning mountain passes that link Wartrail with the nearby towns of Rhodes, Barkly East and Lady Grey.
