We spent a great days in Alcoutim. We recommend to know it and stay some days in a typical house from this zone of Portugal.

Unfortunately we had to wait outside, while we clearly agreed time of arrival. The house has no view. You cannot see the sky while inside, only the patio that you share with others. Unfortunately the bed is really bad. It is very small and too soft, so it feels like a hammock. Alltogether the price is far too high compared with other accomodation.

We liked Alcoutim and the surrounding area. Alcoutim is a pretty little town. We enjoyed going across the Guardiana to Spain in a ferry (only 1Euro) and wandering around. It was pretty straightforward driving down to the coast for the beaches when we wanted to and we could also explore northwards to Mertola and Castro Verde. Alcoutim has a beach on the river too which was very popular. The locals were all friendly. Remember to think about getting some food, milk etc on the way on the first day. There is only a small shop in Alcoutim.
