The properties are located on adjoining gardens of at least one acre each, within the original Loyalist Settlers’ Estate of the Pettit family, who settled the area in 1799. The whole 4-acre estate includes a games and sports field, boardwalk, docks and pedal boat is shared only our 2nd house called Shore Lodge. The Estate includes the charming, separately-fenced garden which is the final resting place of members of the original family owners of the property.
Myself and my girlfriends spent this past weekend at the Gate house. We all loved our experience. The place was so nicely decorated and they provided everything we needed to feel right at home. Both the inside and outside were pristine. The location was ideal for doing a day trip to the Sandbanks and dunes. Lots of wineries and breweries close by as well. Would highly recommend staying here.
Our host was extremely friendly and responsive, very interested in making our stay as perfect as possible. The home was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The surroundings are peaceful and beautiful. You'll have a chance to watch a multitude of swans and other water and marsh birds along the shore of West Lake. The host does a personal check-in and checkout and met us exactly at the agreed upon time. It was a very enjoyable weekend away.
We loved this beautiful place, ideal for a women's getaway weekend for walking and exploring in the area. Beds were comfortable, great kitchen layout close to dining area and living room and private outlook to a boardwalk to the lake. We made all our meals and enjoyed all the nice touches in the kitchen. Appreciated the ease of access to the property, and yet it still felt very private.
‘GATE HOUSE’ is ideally located in the sought-after area of West Lake, just a 4-minute drive from Dunes Beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park and 10 minutes from Outlet Beach. However, The County is so compact that nothing is very far away (Picton only 10 minutes, Wellington 12 minutes and Bloomfield 5 minutes), and we are always happy to help with directions and suggestions.
We are just 4 minutes from Sandbanks Provincial Park (just down the road!), 15 minutes from the wineries, 10 minutes from Picton or Wellington, and 5 minutes from Bloomfield. It's a good central location to most things in Prince Edward County - and most importantly for families, its Sandbanks, and its 3 beaches.
The County has little public transportation. So guests rely on having their own cars / transport, and our driveways have plenty of parking, even for boat trailers and RV’s. There is a public boat launch just 500 m down the road.
For a more leisure way to travel, bikes can be easily rented just 7 minutes drive away.
Interested in boating? West Lake is a moment away, and water sports including pontoon boats can be rented. As far as travel is concerned, the wonderful thing about Prince Edward County is that its size means everything is almost on your doorstep. But you will need a vehicle as there is very little public transportation. Why not hire a bicycle (rental facility just 7 minutes away) and explore The County whilst getting some exercise!
