Relax at this early 20th century former package store that now nestles among post oaks and pines on our family ranch in Bastrop County. The Package Store was built by my grandfather in the early 1930’s overlooking the Brazos River in the East Texas community of Washington-on-the-Brazos. “Old Washington,” as it is locally known, was the site of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836. You are welcomed to enjoy the serenity of a restful night’s stay and the renewal that simplicity and quiet respite can afford. Your time at the Package Store will offer relaxation on the breezy porches or walking miles of country roads and cow paths on our family’s 600 acre cattle ranch. There is an adjacent grape arbor with a chemenea for fire gazing and there are wide open night skies for stargazing. If you like to soak up the solitude of a fishing hole, there’s a bend of Brushy Creek within an easy walk that offers ample sun perch and an occasional wide mouth bass. The Package Store welcomes weary travelers or wide eyed visionaries bursting with the next chapter of their book to write!
