Have an enchanting stay at the oldest surviving opera house in the country, in the Carriage House Suite. The Duchamp OperaHouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with its rich history and original brick walls dating back almost two centuries, it’s a unique and romantic experience. The presence of the original carriage on-site that was used to transport guest from the ferryboats from Bayou Teche to the Opera House adds an extra layer of historical charm to the ambiance. Walk in from Main Street parking just feet away from your own private courtyard. The entire space is thoughtfully designed and elegantly renovated, featuring convenient amenities despite its historical roots. The very comfortable queen Murphy bed hidden within the bedroom cabinet closets offers versatility, while the kitchenette boasts white marble countertops, top of the line air fryer/microwave, sink, and a small fridge with freezer. The large bathroom, equipped with ADA-compliant fixtures and beautiful antique vanity, is spacious and accommodating, complemented by high ceilings and fine materials throughout the entire area, adding to its charm and comfort. Imagining the lively scene of the horse-drawn carriage navigating through what is now the Carriage House Suite, serving as a pivotal spot for transporting travelers from the Bayou Teche ferryboat to the alleyway between the Duchamp Opera House and New Era Hotel, brings a vivid sense of history to the space. This historical significance, serving as a hub for transportation, entertainment and hospitality in the 1800s, truly enriches the suite's narrative, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of travel and accommodation in Historic St. Martinville “Petit Paris”
We had a great time at this Airbnb! The location was beautiful and it was easy to find everything we needed nearby. The place was clean and comfortable, with all the essentials provided. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!
Mike was such an amazing host! He went beyond his job as our host. He was extremely helpful and flexible with us. He allowed us to check in early for our wedding day, and on top of having a beautiful place- in pristine condition- he was so helpful when we happened to lock our keys in our car before checkout. He was so understanding and patient with us. We highly recommend this beautiful air bnb, and Mike will surely take great care of you! The room was so clean, peaceful, and in such a great location. We will definitely be staying again if we’re in the area.
This Airbnb was the nicest one I’ve been to. The whole area was clean and the host was super responsive. There are lots of things to do around this area and it’s great because it’s all walkable. 10/10
Our unique French Catholic settlement grew around St. Martin De Tours, the mother church and birthplace of the Cajuns where it all began off the banks of the Bayou Teche. Stop into the Acadian Memorial and museum to learn about our Cajun roots.
The two block church square contains the 1840 Romanesque inspired church, the Greek Revival parish hall and the 1857 rectory in a park like setting with large overhanging live oak trees.
With some buildings like the Duchamp Opera House dating back to 1830.
The Evangeline Oak is undoubtably, the most famous oak in Louisiana and is a short walk through the Church square. At the Evangeline Oak site you can also enter the Bayou Teche boardwalk and comfortably walk along the bayou Teche seeing native plants and animals.
Grab a drink at Roberts lounge across the street and stop in at the popular St. John’s Restaurant which has the finest farm to table Cajun cuisine experiences around.
All within a short walk of the Carriage House Suite located inside the Duchamp Opera House.
Park on Main St. in front of the Carriage House Suite just steps away from the gated entry. Most attractions are just a short walk through our historic square.
