Lassay la Chateaux , one town with three castles.
Voted the 3rd most beautiful village in the whole of France
charming little semi-wild town, located right in the middle of the side roads, which has three old castles, two of which are admirable that I drew. The third has only a few ruins located among the most beautiful and wildest trees in the world,” wrote Victor Hugo to his wife in 1836.
An ancient medieval stronghold located between Maine and Normandy, the town owes its name to the river which flows along its side, and because it has more than one castle: the fortified castle, that of Bois Thibault and that of Bois Frou, all three linked by an interpretation trail of the legend of King Arthur. It must be said that the first inhabitant of Lassay, the hermit Fraimbault, in the 6th century  , inspired the creation of the literary character of Lancelot du Lac, knight of King Arthur. The current church, built by the architect Godin in 1859, replacing the old chapel of the Benedictine convent, bears his name. Rising on a naturally defensive granite spur, the fortified castle, a flagship of 15th  century military architecture , dominates the town and is reflected in the pond. It is the only one in France to have preserved its original architecture with its eight towers, its curtain walls, its two-story barbican and its gatehouse. 
The architectural wealth of the city extends to the entire heart of the city built in local granite, with facades on the built front and small streets parallel to the main artery. Chapel, concierge, salt granary, dwellings, merchant houses, inn, are all testimonies to the importance of this merchant city in the Middle Ages. While strolling through Lassay, you can also discover the medieval-inspired garden and the rose garden with three hundred fragrancesFrance
