I really liked staying at Ryan’s place. The hostel is ultra clean all over. It’s well organized too. Feels like a very friendly community. Nice place overall. I even had a quiet place to practice yoga and meditation in the morning.
It's so nice to see a hostel in Monterey- great location, a few blocks from the aquarium and Cannery row. Very clean, plenty of food storage space, and secure. Also, quiet and chill atmosphere- not too big or too small.
We are located in the Lighthouse District, home to many great restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, and entertainment options.
We're an up-and-coming district located just three blocks away from Monterey's historic Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the ocean!
We are located at 778 Hawthorne Street, Monterey CA 93940.
We are located in the "Lighthouse District" in the neighborhood called "New Monterey". We are 3 blocks from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and the ocean!
There is a city bus stop at Lighthouse/Irving (1-block away) with busses that run every 15-30 minutes with direct lines to downtown Pacific Grove, downtown Monterey, the Monterey County Fairgrounds, and the MTA Transit hub (with connections to Carmel, Carmel Valley, Marina, and Salinas).
We are 2-blocks from the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, which stretches 18 miles, from Castroville in the north to Pacific Grove in the south. This popular paved (and wheelchair accessible) path hugs the coast, connecting you with various parks, beaches, and numerous sea mammals who call the Monterey Peninsula home.

Hello, I'm Ryan! I am the executive director of HostelingOn, a 501(c)3 nonprofit on a mission to preserve and promote the hostel movement. A hostel existed in Monterey for over 20 years, but sadly went under during the pandemic. I relocated to the Central Coast to help save and reopen Monterey Hostel after an extensive renovation! I look forward to welcoming you to our lovely hostel. :)
