This beautiful apartment is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 20 km from the international airport. The city has two bus stations, in Parque San Telmo and Parque Santa Catalina, with services that connect not only all the districts of the city, but also all the municipalities of the island.
Walking through the streets of Vegueta is an exercise in history that allows the visitor to pause in some of the most intense chapters of the city, and houses museums such as the Casa de Colón, the hermitage of San Antonio Abad, Plaza Santa Ana, etc.
Before leaving the Vegueta neighbourhood, you can visit the Guiniguada Theatre or stroll around the market, which dates back to 1854.
The Italian-inspired Teatro Pérez Galdós is one of the city's most emblematic buildings. One of the meeting places in the Triana neighbourhood is Plaza Hurtado de Mendoza and Plaza de Cairasco, where there are two outstanding buildings: the Hotel Madrid and the Gabinete Literario, in neoclassical style with modernist decorations.
In the same square, you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere on one of the terraces. In the Triana neighbourhood you will find another of the most interesting buildings in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Quegles building, built in 1900. Finally, the Pérez Galdós House-Museum is located in this neighbourhood, a building that is a testimony to the domestic architecture of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, which offers visitors a wide range of Galdós's legacy, including works of art, furniture, manuscripts, letters and photographs.
In the centre of the city, very close to Las Alcaravaneras beach, is Doramas Park. Its gardens, recently restored and refurbished, are home to autochthonous flora, and within its grounds is the Pueblo Canario complex, an example of traditional Canarian architecture, which houses the Néstor Museum, dedicated to the figure of Nestor Fernández de la Torre, a modernist painter and one of the most important artists in the archipelago. The historic Hotel Santa Catalina, a colonial building inaugurated in 1890, completes this complex in the centre of the city.
The Muelle Deportivo, the largest in the Canary Islands, is located on the Avenida Marítima in front of the Hotel Santa Catalina. It is the starting point for one of the most famous transatlantic regattas in Europe, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), which links Gran Canaria with Santa Lucia in the Caribbean.
One of the city's most emblematic parks is located in the port area: Santa Catalina Park, an example of life on the edge. It is home to the Science Museum and the Miller Building, which hosts cultural activities. Santa Catalina Park is also the nerve centre for carnival events and the Theatre and Dance Festival held during the summer months.
Overlooking Las Canteras beach, at one end is the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, where the most important musical concerts and international congresses are held.
To enjoy the scenic beauty of the municipality, the visitor can go to the residential area of Tafira, where it is possible to admire Canarian architecture. This area is also home to the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden, which contains the most important botanical endemisms of the archipelago.
One of the most spectacular and pleasant walks is to the Caldera de Bandama, the crater of a dormant volcano - 1 kilometre in diameter and 200 metres deep - from which the lava that formed the peak of Bandama erupted and from which you can enjoy a privileged panoramic view.
The beaches
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of the few Spanish capitals with kilometres of beaches. In addition, the island's excellent climate means that they can be enjoyed all year round.
The main and most popular tourist attraction is Las Canteras beach: three kilometres of blonde sand, accompanied by as many kilometres of promenade, offering all kinds of services: hotels, restaurants, bars and terraces. When the sun goes down, the beach becomes the best meeting place for those who want to practise sports or take a relaxing stroll.
The bay of El Confital opens up at the foot of the mountains as an extension of the sea. Here the sun has evaporated the puddles where the salt pans used to be. The best right-hand wave in Europe for surfing can be found on its coast.
Las Alcaravaneras beach is located in the centre of the city, next to the Muelle Deportivo. With almost 1,000 metres of blond sand, it is flanked by the city's two yacht clubs. Protected by the quays of the Port of La Luz, this beach is ideal for water sports, especially sailing.
Finally, on the way out of the city towards the south of the island is La Laja beach. It is a black sand beach with a pleasant promenade and a sea wall that protects it from the waves. It is an area with excellent conditions for surfing and fishing.
Shopping
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has 4 large shopping centres: Las Arenas, La Ballena, 7 Palmas and El Muelle, as well as the shopping areas of Triana and Mesa y López where commercial establishments and leisure and service centres open their doors so that you can choose from a wide range of products and prices. The Santa Catalina area is also home to small shops specialising in image and sound.
If you want to buy traditional and local products, the city has 4 markets located in Vegueta, in the Port, in Alcaravaneras and in Altavista. Those who prefer handicrafts can visit the market held on Sundays in Vegueta, the Pueblo Canario (Canarian Village) or the FEDAC shop in Triana. Another option is the antiques market held on the first Sunday of every month in Santa Catalina Park.
Gastronomy
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria it is possible to taste a wide range of typical dishes that make up Canarian gastronomy, from sancocho, made with a fish called cherne, to various meat dishes, such as carajacas accompanied by papas arrugadas con mojo, pork, marinated rabbit, pork trotters, ropa vieja or goat.
Don't leave the city without tasting some of these typical dishes, or the cakes and pastries from the inland villages, such as suspiros de Moya, bienmesabe de Tejeda or the delicious sweets made by the nuns of the Cistercian convent of Teror.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, taperío, the popular snack, is also very common. The areas of Vegueta, Triana, El Puerto or Tafira are popular places to enjoy some tapas in the open air, accompanied by local wine, in small terraces.
You have everything you need just a few steps away from the apartment, restaurants, beach and other services. It is also very well connected to public transport and the motorway.
