Te Mahana cottage is situated just across the road from Waihi Beach. Just a few minutes drive from Waihi Beach village, full of boutique shops, fantastic restaurants, cafes, local art gallery, a small supermarket and award-winning butcher making this area full of everything you need for that perfect getaway!
Close to the cottage is the Island View dairy and fish and chip shop as well as award winning Surf Shack Cafe. The cottage is also a few mins walk from the estuary walkway that is perfect for bird watching, walking, running or biking, this 5km track runs alongside the estuary and ends at the Bowentown reserve which features a kids playground, boat ramp, restaurant and boat club where you can also grab a meal. If it's a more quiet beach you're after, Anzac Cove is a 5 min drive away, perfect for kids who don't like waves!
The beaches nearby are wonderful for walking, shell collecting, swimming, surfing or playing in the sand. There are many well equipped children’s playgrounds in the area as well as great walking and biking tracks including the famous Mountain Bike trail through the Karangahake Gorge. This trail is great for all ages, you pass over bridges, through tunnels and explore the old gold mine and waterfall. There are also mineral hot pools nearby at both Athenree Holiday Park and Sapphire Springs in Katikati (if you go to Sapphire Springs take the nearby walk to the southernmost giant Kauri in NZ, a short 30 min loop track walk through beautiful NZ forest).
Te Mahana is in an ideal location to explore the Bay of Plenty. Tauranga is a 1-hour drive, and Coromandel is 1.5 hours. The Karangahake Gorge is 20 min drive away for wonderful walking and exploring as well as a winery, restaurant and café, a waterfall and bike trails. Hobbiton is only an hours drive away and the famous Waitomo Caves or Rotorua both 1.5-2 hours away by car. Auckland International airport is also only 2 hours drive.

It is necessary to have a car here as there is no public transport available. We have plenty of parking, you can use the driveway for one car plus there is additional free parking on the street directly outside the house.
