The centrally heated non-smoking single room was renovated in 2022 and is accessible via a separate entrance (stairs). There is a small sitting area, fridge, kettle, capsule coffee machine, flat-screen TV and a bathroom with shower/WC. There is ample parking, bicycle storage, a playground with information board about the national park, a crib on request and free WiFi. Ankershagen is primarily associated with the famous archaeologist and Troy discoverer Heinrich Schliemann, who spent his childhood in the vicarage opposite the church. The listed house from the 18th century now houses a museum. The highlight of the exhibitions is a large model of the Trojan Horse, while Ankershagen is also considered the gateway to the Müritz National Park, which is one of the most important habitats for rare animals and plants thanks to its huge forest complexes, many small lakes, meadows and moors. Visitors can explore the area themselves using the well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails. Guided excursions are offered for observing wild animals and birds. Numerous observation towers have been built for this purpose. In the village itself there is an information point with exhibitions, bike hire and a café. The Havel spring lake area, which is particularly popular with paddlers, is just 2 km away.
