A traditional detached two-bedroom North Wales holiday cottage on a working farm on the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park. Derwin-Fawr is traditional detached two-bedroom North Wales holiday cottage on a working farm on the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It's central location allows guest to enjoy the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) as well as the famous sandy beaches of the Llyn Peninsula. But we should explore inside the cottage first. The front door leads us into a large kitchen diner. Traditional fitted units house a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer and electric oven and hob. The owners of the cottage have been successfully running holiday cottages for years so you can rest assured that all the utensils and kitchen appliances you need are included. From here we step through into the lounge. Newly decorated and always immaculately clean, as it should be. A comfortable sofa and two large armchairs sit under a wooden beamed ceiling. A TV and fire face each other at the far end of the room and an open staircase leads us up to the first floor bedrooms. Two bedrooms in total. The master double bedroom has a lovely glass door facing out onto the surrounding lawn and a high vaulted ceiling. The second bedroom houses 3 single beds in addition to a large wardrobe and matching bedside tables.
The cottage is in a great location for exploring the two different sides to North Wales. The towering mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) can be seen to the west whilst the gentler slopes and sandy beaches of the Llyn Peninsula stretch out to the East. Depending on energy levels guests might consider a short drive to Cwm Pennant, a great starting point for an ascent of the magnificent Nantlle Ridge. A cycle or walk on the popular Lon Eifion path with stretches from the front door to Caernarfon. Or, on a more lazy afternoon, you might head down to Criccieth and enjoy an ice cream on the beach.
Nearby towns include the historic Caernarfon and it's famous castle to the north and Porthmadog, a bustling harbour town popular with many tourists, to the south. Both towns boast a good selection of pubs and restaurants.
Lots of things to do in the area. Bring your bike to take advantage of the Lon Eifion cycle path or why not hire one? Plus traditional pastimes such as walking, fishing and golf now sit alongside adventure-type activities such as quad biking, paint balling and sea kayaking. Historical tours of castles and mines now happy to share the landscape zip line, mountain biking and gorge walking courses. As the brochure would say, plenty for all the family!
