Wild and western defines the beauty and tranquility of Copper Spur Ranch, a working cattle and sheep ranch in the Colorado Rocky Mountains 38 miles NW of Vail. The 1140 acre ranch is surrounded by over 50,000 acres of public lands and dozens of miles of trails. Enjoy the incredible solitude and activities like trout fishing in private ponds, swimming, hiking, biking, 4 wheeling, rafting, shooting, horseback riding, star gazing and campfires while staying in a rustic mountain home that sleeps 10. Copper Spur Ranch is a remote, working cattle and sheep ranch homesteaded in the 1880's. The power and phone line end at our ranch and the nearest neighbor is about two miles away. In addition to cattle and sheep we also have horses, guard dogs ( to guard the sheep), chickens, geese and ducks. Some of the log barns are 120 years old. The guest house is 100 years old but has been remodeled several times over the years. It is rustic, cozy and comfortable. There is a master BR and an open loft that has four bunk beds. Three of the beds have double mattresses on the bottom. There are two full bathrooms. On the deck there is a picnic table and couch and under the trees there is a fire pit and hammock. The creek and pond with a dock is nearby. High speed internet is provided by Starlink. Guests have full use of the ranch. For an additional fee, guests can ride our horses with a wrangler in some of the most beautiful country you will ever see, or, guests can bring their own horses. We have plenty of pastures to keep your horses. There are rides down to the Colorado River or to the top of adjacent mountains and through the Radium State Wildlife Area. Additionally, we have a 500 yard shooting range, two stocked trout ponds with large Rainbow and Brook Trout, a creek running through the ranch and the Colorado river goes in a horseshoe loop around the ranch. The river is six miles to the East and four miles to the West. This section of the river is very popular for fishing and rafting. You can also rent our UTV to explore the surrounding countryside.
