INTRODUCTION TO TINOS ISLAND

GETTING THERE
Fly to Mykonos and then take a ferry (15mins - 30mins). Alternatively there are daily ferry routes connecting Athens (Rafina or Pereus Port) to Tinos Island.

TO SEE
- Panagia Evangelestria – Tinos is home to 750 churches and chapels but the most important by far is the Panagia Evangelestria. The pristine complex hosts a major shrine dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and since 1830 has been considered as one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites in Greece. A huge Greek Orthodox celebration known as the Dormition of the Mother of God takes place on 15th August which means huge crowds of devotees make their way to the island to pay their respects. On any other day, the church is well worth a visit to see the icon of Panagia (the Virgin Mary) which is believed to hold miraculous powers.
- Pyrgos – The word Pyrgos means ‘tower’ in Greek and this scenic village is named so after a Venetian fortress built there in the 16th century as a means of defence. This is one of the larger villages on Tinos and showcases a rich history of marble-making which has been a key cultural attribute of the island since antiquity. The white and green marble of Tinos is celebrated in Pyrgos’ museums, galleries, and marble workshops as well as in the architecture and monuments which make up the village. On each street and alley there is something fascinating to behold but its hub is the main square. A magnificent plane tree is planted aside a marble fountain in the centre of the square and both are surrounded by quaint shops and cafes. It is the perfect spot to end after exploring the village’s endless visual delights. 
- Climbing Routes – With its mountainous terrain, Tinos provides the perfect conditions for rock-climbing in the vast and unblemished landscape. Over 100 climbing trails can be found at Mount Exomvogou (also the site of prehistoric and medieval ruins) all equipped with steel plug-rings drilled into the granite rocks. Other excellent bouldering locations on Tinos include Volax, Petriados and Kakia Sakla.

- Thalassaki Restaurant in Ysternia : Literally on the sea, on an old pier, on the edge of a delicious sandy beach, is Thalassaki restaurant, perfect for the seafood lovers.
- Marathia Restaurant : Marathia’s restaurant opened almost 20 years ago back in 2002; a dream made reality that plays out differently each and every day. “Whatever Tinos produces is served up on our tables”. Located just in front of the sea.
- Tarsanas Restaurant : Perched right on the waterfront, this local taverna, specialising in seafood, features casual yet refined cuisine. The best combination of traditional and modern, you are in for a delicious feast in a picturesque setting.
- Rakizio : A modern tavern that draws inspiration from the tradition of the place, the simplicity and authenticity of life and food in the village. A must dine during your stay with us.
- Tereza : Is the ideal place to go if you want to try homemade food, prepared with love and fresh ingredients. This restaurant stands out for its authentic atmosphere, combining a tavern-restaurant, coffee shop, and grocery store that seems to belong to a different time period.
- O Ntinos : On the south side of the island below the enchanting village of Kardiani, at Yiannakis bay they are waiting for you in the sheltered courtyard of 'Ntinos', enjoy the view toward the island of Syros and the sunset, the traditional food and Tinian hospitality. The kitchen includes generous fourtalia, traditionally cooked dishes, fish and seafood, with the shrimp spaghetti having gained its own reputation.
- Maru : The kitchen and the dishes are carefully prepared and certainly fully prepared to cover every taste, since you will find a variety of choices both in seafood and meat. Located in-front of a wonderful port.
- Mikro Karavi :Set in a green garden, near the old port of Chora Tinos, you will find the "Little Boat", with a name inspired by the song of our childhood. - Argonaftis : Argonaftis is a quirky nightclub in Tinos’ main town which attracts locals and tourists in equal measure for its legendary nights that easily extend to the early hours.
- Kaktos : Next to one of Tinos’ historic windmills is the similarly historic Kaktos, one of the most popular bars on the island. With its lovely sunset views, relaxing lounge music and endless cocktails, it guarantees the perfect balmy evening on Tinos. 
- Lefko Beach Bar : Laid back luxury, this hip beach bar in Agios Romanos is the perfect spot to drink in sun, sea and plenty of cocktails! With comfortable and stylish facilities in a prime seafront location, Lefko will keep you satisfied from morning to night.
- Kalivia Beach Bar : In the summer of 2005, Markos set up there, initially for his friends, a bar - a meeting point. From then until now, the friends have become many and the company is constantly growing
- Dear John : Dear John is a beach bar with a boho atmosphere that can be found at the small cove of Ormos Kardianis. Its location is very convenient for spending the day right by the sea and the beach bar is very lively at any time of the day or evening, with nice music.
- Kolibithra Beach : In the busy part of Kolympithra, Mikri Ammos, you will find a multitude of organized beach bars that play music and offer drinks and snacks all day. Choose the one that suits your taste and musical preferences and relax on your sunbed.
- Rochari Beach Bar : On the sandy beach of Rohari in Tinos, a few minutes after Panormos, you will find one of the most zen beach bars, which for five summers has been putting into practice the musical quote "summertime and the living is easy".
