Migron · 整套出租单元 · 4室6床2.5卫 · 可住8人 · Gorgeous historic house, heated pool, private cafe
A beautiful, vine-covered house in the peaceful, ancient village of Migron surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers. The house has a heated pool, boules, beautiful gardens and its own cafe bar. Excellently furnished and equipped, with large, airy rooms which stay cool even on the hottest of Charentaise days. Close to the beautiful historic towns of Cognac, Saintes & St Jean D'Angely and just 40 minutes from the beautiful sandy beaches of Royan. Maximum ratings on TripAdvisor, VRBO and Chez Nous. In the 19th century, Thouvenin was the station hotel. The railway has long since gone and quiet has returned to the village. On the mezannine area, fully undercover and accessible from the ground and first floors, is a private café/bar, capturing the feel of a stylish, but lost era. Its louvred wall provides dappled shade even at the height of summer. The village Pretre’s cassock hangs on the hatstand alongside the Gendarme’s cap, beside thirsty travellers’ luggage awaiting their departure... It is furnished with tables and sofas and the hand crafted zinc bar has both a fridge and a freezer hidden within it. It’s a fabulous spot for breakfast, or leisurely enjoying a good book out of the sun and the perfect place for a late night drink at the end of a relaxing day. We can even arrange to stock the bar before you arrive! Thouvenin has four bedrooms: the principal bedroom is very large, with a super-king-size bed. The second largest bedroom, with its pretty limed-oak furniture, has a 5' double bed, and the third and fourth bedrooms are identical in size and each has bunk beds with a single on top and a pull-out double underneath. All bed rooms lead to the covered mezzanine bar. The family bath and shower room is also situated upstairs with a new second shower room with toilet. There is a separate toilet downstairs. Downstairs, the kitchen leads out on one side to the extremely spacious sitting room which includes two sofas and further armchairs, large colour TV with all BBC and ITV channels as well as French television, DVD player, VHS player and a CD player. Wireless Broadband is available at no cost with download speed of 380Mbps. Opposite is the elegant dining room which can seat up to 10. Outside is the covered terrace with a dining area, full size table tennis and a brick built BBQ with chimney. Adjacent is the boules area, surrounded by a lavender and rosemary hedge. the 9m x 4m pool is heated by solar panels, has a constant depth and full stairs. It is fully fenced with childproof-gates. It is the only area shared with the gite.
casa grande y bien situada, las personas que la cuidan muy amables y pendientes de todo.
Le séjour s’est très bien passé maison très propre beaucoup d’endroits où se détendre je recommande fortement
The small village of Migron, with its pretty, 11th Century stone church, is perfect for those who don't want to be too remote, with a boulangerie, a well-stocked mini-market, complete with a tiny coffee shop, post office and a weekly grocer's van selling fresh local vegetables.
Oysters and mussels are sold in front of the epicerie every Saturday morning and a pizza van visits one evening a week.
Close by are the wonderful towns of Saintes, Cognac and St Jean d'Angely, each very different, but all with historic buildings and good shopping. Closer still are Matha and Burie, with supermarkets, bars and restaurants.
In Cognac, 20 minutes' drive away, there's a chance to visit some of the world-famous Cognac distilleries and like the beautiful old Roman town of Saintes, also 20 minutes away, there is the River Charente flowing through its centre. Saintes has elegant boulevards, good museums, a Roman ampitheatre and two cathedrals.
Excellent markets can be found nearby on just about every day of the week - we'll supply you with a list. Brocantes (or flea markets) are held in local villages on most weekends, and artisans fairs - such as the annual Foire aux Vins in Migron held in July - are frequent throughout the summer.
Cognac also has an international music festival, which attracts the biggest names, but also has music in every cafe and the pedestrianised streets.
The beautiful sandy beaches of Royan are just forty minutes away. And then there are the islands.. Ile de Re, home to celebrities and feeling more like Greece than France... and Ile d'Oleron a two mile ride across an amazing bridge and miles and miles of undeveloped beaches backing onto pine forests. And if you want a taste of them all there's no better than the preserved steam railway that runs throughout the summer.
Other attractions nearby includetwo water-slide parks just 20 minutes' distance and a world-class a zoo. Also within an hour's drive are Bordeaux, Rochefort and La Rochelle with its historic port, stunning aquarium and fantastic shopping.
Cognac and Pineau des Charentes - a local aperitif - are available to taste and buy direct from local producers, and local specialities include goats' cheeses, oysters from the Marennes, mussels, and other wonderful seafood from the Atlantic coast. The best 'local' wine is Bordeaux - most grapes grown here are for Cognac or Pineau - and there are caves (wine co-operatives) in several local towns.
Migron and the surrounding area is excellent for cycling - miles and miles of level countryside with virtually traffic-free routes through vineyards, fields, woodland and villages. Other activities include river trips, antiques markets (large brocantes held in surrounding villages regularly throughout the summer), visits to chateaux, churches and museums, walking, cycling and birdwatching (74 hectares of lagoon nature reserves in the area).
Sport and leisure in the area include golf (18-hole courses in both Cognac and Saintes which are 20 minutes away), horseriding, all types of fishing, tennis (including a court in the village), canoe-kayaking (boats to hire at various places along the Charente in Cognac and Saintes), and plenty of space in and around the village to kick a football.
The region is littered with historic villages, cosmopolitan cities and some of France's most beautiful beaches with miles of white sand. Its not a heavily populated area, with a real sense of space, but with good motorway links that makes travelling quick and easy. It's a wonderfully varied landscape, with seemingly endless vineyards and sunflower fields stretching to the horizon all around our village. Head towards the coast though and you encounter beautiful sea marshes, packed with wildlife and a bird watcher's paradise.
Migron is situated between Cognac and Saintes, both of which are a 20-minute drive away. It is about 20 minutes off the A10 Paris-Bordeaux autoroute, coming off at St Jean D'Angely. It is about 4 hours from St Malo, 4.5 hours from Caen, and 8 hours from Boulogne/Calais.
The nearest airports are Angouleme (45 mins), La Rochelle (just over an hours drive) and Poitiers (1hr 30 mins drive), all served by Ryanair.
Also within driving distance are Bordeaux(1hr 10 mins), with British Airways and Limoges (2hrs 30 mins), Ryanair.
By train, the nearest TGV station is Angouleme (40 mins drive away).
Full directions will be supplied on booking for all routes.
