I traveled with my family, including kids for a ling weekend and Portazul felt like home away from home, absolutely beautiful!, it was clean, felt safe, close to great spots to visit. Very comfortable, gorgeous nature views, peaceful, very clean and had everything we needed to cook and enjoy ourselves while hanging out at the house. Luis was super responsive and made communication easy, facilitating maps and coordinates to places of interest in the area. Would highly recommend staying here!

Excelente lugar para descansar y desconectar de la ciudad, muy cómoda y acogedora casa! Moderna y bien cuidada. Muy buen clima y de noche la temperatura es increíble. Luis es un excelente anfitrión y muy detallista con las indicaciones, que sirven de mucha ayuda para la estancia. Sin duda volveremos a visitar este hermoso lugar para pasarnos en familia.
We were worried because most rentals in Altos del Maria were either basic or very large and expensive. But Luis' home was just right for us. It was like a very nice hotel experience in the middle of this natural paradise. The parrots and oropendolas were stunning, and the trails, mountain views and waterfalls were unforgettable. We felt far away from civilization but with city comforts that we appreciated. Our host provided information about many daytime activities, and we settled in at the large fire pit in the evening to look up at the stars. This is a really special place. I highly recommend Portazul, and I'm glad we chose it for our escape from the city. I only wish we'd had more time to stay there!

Altos del Maria is a gated, secure community, with 2 main gates. Both are equally distant to Portazul, and either will lead you to the property.
Please be aware that Altos del Maria has very steep hills. Ensure that your vehicle is in good condition, and while you don’t need a 4x4 vehicle, it is best to drive using low gear (S or L with automatic transmission cars).
The closest fuel station is located on the Pan-American Highway, 45 minutes from the house, so we recommend you take this precaution.
Portazul and Altos del Maria are remote by design, and there aren’t many places to buy groceries or other necessities. The town of Sora, which you go through when entering Altos del Maria, has a small/local food market. To avoid unnecessary trips for supplies, pick up your food, drinks, coffee, insect repellent and other needs on your way into the community.

I have visited more than 35 countries throughout Europe, the Americas, and Africa. I enjoy photography, and my travels have allowed me to capture beautiful shots of nature and architecture. Some of my favorite travel spots include Patagonia, Machu Pichu, Rome, Prague, Egypt, and many of the National Parks in the USA.
