The Shiomi House was everything we expected and more. We reserved the whole place and felt like we were in our own country home. Mie and Keiko were excellent hosts and we enjoyed family style meals with them and sometimes with their friends. All in all, a unique experience in a beautiful place.

Our stay at Mie & Keiko was wonderful! The place is beautiful and decorated in the classical Japanese style. The location on the island was also very special and for us a perfect stop in between a two day bicycle tour. Mie and the other guests were very friendly and we had a lot of fun cooking (they did the work) and sharing our dinner together. The breakfast was also delicious! Would definitely recommend this place if you want to experience Japanese hospitality!

Charming and warm welcome in this typical Japanese house. Keiko and Mie ensured an ideal and comfortable stay. We strongly recommend having dinner and breakfast on site, Mie being a true "cordon bleu", deserving star(s) in the gastronomic guides, truly exquisite and enjoyable. Great place to discover the surroundings and the Shimanami Archipelago. Wonderful people and place, thanks so much to all Shiomi House members and guests 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This is a great value for a semi-private hostel-like experience in a traditional Japanese house. Mie’s cooking alone makes this a worthwhile stay (and one I’d not hesitate to book again). A random encounter with a resident the next island over, and I find out Mie has a local reputation as an exceptional cook. The futons were comfortable, and the bathrooms and shower were fine though the ofuro was not operational. At first I wasn’t expecting that there would be another guest in a room adjacent to our room (just on the other side of a solid shoji, and sound can carry pretty easily between the two rooms). The guest was peaceful and we had a good time chatting over the meals with him about our cycling adventures. Finally, I must mention that Mie went above and beyond by on he driving us after dinner all the way to Iwagi island, to see an illuminated cherry blossom display. On her offer. We were only one-night guests and yet this was true hospitality, a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

If you're going to bike the islands, I highly recommend to spend a night as it is possible but maybe not so enjoyable to bike in one day. And then you might as well stop here, off the trail because it's beautiful here. Easy to reach by one of the ferry options. The hosts are very welcoming. The place is nice. They even brought us by car to a place with beautiful hanami at night. I highly recommend this place. But bring earplugs as not all other guests are considerate...
