Potamos is a sizable village situated approximately 4 km from the city center of Corfu, earning its name, which means "river" in Greek, from the river that flows through the area. This river holds significance as the most voluminous one on the island, and its banks are linked by the Asyrmatos Bridge, constructed during Corfu's Venetian period. Regarded as one of the oldest and most picturesque villages on the island, Potamos boasts well-preserved mansions dating back to the 16th century, contributing to the region's traditional character. The Zoodohou Pigis-Saint Barbaros Church, featuring a 35-meter belfry, was erected in the early 16th century. Additionally, the Saint Eleousa Church, built in 1562 on the hill of Potamos, was unfortunately destroyed during World War II in 1943 amid the bombings of Corfu. Adjacent to Saint Eleousa stands the old school, known as Didaktirio, a structure from 1741 that once served as a primary school. Although now abandoned, Didaktirio previously housed a storage area on the ground floor and provided living quarters for the local priest, while lessons took place on the upper floor. Expanding from arable lands to the sea, Potamos village encompasses an area known as Alykes, or salt pans in Greek. This region features a family-friendly beach with shallow waters suitable for children. Adjacent to the beach, there's a skater's park and a basketball court. Alykes is not only recognized for its recreational facilities but also for hosting the island's most renowned nightclubs, cafes, and restaurants, providing diverse options for nightlife enthusiasts. There is a bus stop in front of Nadali coffee shop in the main road to get to Corfu town. To access the house you should take the blue bus line, No 7 to Dassia, and stop at Sunset hotel.
