This place is close to town and is really easy to get to: just get off of IP2 at Norte Vidigueira, after the roundabout head to Vidigueira take the first right its only about 150 meters from the roundabout, then turn left after 100 meters into gated driveway - gate is iron with white masonry pillars holding it. The house is a wonderful property situated in the middle of a 9 hectare farm, so although close to the highway, it is rare to hear road noises and certainly cannot be heard within the home. The home is large with antique furnishings that tastefully add to the splendour of the house. I thoroughly enjoyed the salt water pool and exploring the property which has an old chapel located just off the rear portion. The home is close to town with a convenient grocer and restaurant within a km. If you would like a quiet getaway away from tourist areas, then this home is definitely one to consider. Although a small town, Vidigueira has all the necessities, close by is Beja, about 20 minutes where one can find large department stores and museums, to the north is Evora about 35 minutes away - it has the feel of a larger metropolitan area, with larger museums and other attractions, Roman ruins are close by Vidigueira and can be found only 3-4 km away. There is an interesting castle to the north only about 5 km away from the home in a place called Portel. Vidigueira is wine country and also has olive oil. The facilities that produce them can be toured for little or no cost, with street signs guiding the way for wine touring. Wines and olive oil produced locally can be found in the local shops. There are many restaurants that offer local cuisine and wines, too many to list here. The host is a personable gentleman who is accessible and always available by phone to ensure your comfort and to answer questions about the area. I will probably return to stay at Quinta de Santa Clara in the future, as it provides the atmosphere I enjoy: quiet, laid back area yet has a proud connection to ancient roots that it shares with its visitors.
