Original windows and a wooden screen door for enjoying lake breezes plus a vintage Esther Williams pool. Indulge in our soft linens, plush towels and cozy fireplace. Grill by your patio and roast s’mores at the campfire. A perfect landing spot for day trips on M22, the scenic route through small towns in Northern Michigan. The Stone Haven Cottage is part of the Green Buoy Resort. Our property was created with adults in mind for restful getaways and rejuvenation. We promote a relaxing space to unwind without the joyous sounds of the youngest generation. This place is just for you! There are 6 cottages on the property, each with a different design & layout. The owner's cottage sits up front followed by our smaller cottages. Our guests share the resort amenities. The owners, Wendy and David, live in the main cottage. We are Super Hosts and have been sharing our love of Northern Michigan offering restful cottage stays since 2018. We look forward to hosting you! PLEASE NOTE: Our entire property is 100% NON SMOKING/VAPING. If you are a smoker, please book a different property. Our property is for adults only please, respectfully decline infants/children/teens/fur babies/pets/animals ~ even the well behaved ones. Your stay will be terminated for any violations with no refunds. WELCOME! Fall in love with this newly appointed stone retreat. With gorgeous wood ceilings and stone accents, this gem of a cottage boasts modern amenities with a mix of vintage goods reflecting the owners love of hosting travelers and providing restful getaways. This nostalgic retreat features an open raftered ceiling, tiled floors and a stone fireplace to set the vacation mood. Wood beams and stones were reclaimed from the surrounding property. Original windows restored to let lake breezes in and a screen door that slams just like a cottage door should. The cottage has an open layout with private bath. The kitchenette features a mini refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, plates, cups & utensils. You'll find paper towels, dish towels, dish soap too. The galley wouldn't be complete without an ice bucket, wine glasses & beer glasses. The kitchenette is perfect for a light snack but cooking is not permitted inside the cottage. The sleeping area features a queen size bed. The cozy spot faces the electric fireplace and television. The smart tv is ready for you to log in to your streaming apps (no cable). Your private bath features a sliding door that was the original door to the cottage. The bath has a walk in tile shower and small vanity. A beautiful window in the upper gable provides lovely morning light and views of the soaring evergreen trees. The living area has a comfy chair so go ahead, put your feet up and dive into a good book. The bar height table provides views of Portage Lake and the resort pool and is a great place to play cards in the evening. Our charming little cottage has a window a/c unit (summer season) and a ceiling fan to keep you cool. OUTDOOR SPACES: After a day of hiking, biking and exploring M22, kick off your shoes, it's time to chop the veggies and grill the steaks. Your outdoor space has a Weber gas grill and its own patio table. Feel free to snip some fresh herbs for your dinner from our little herb garden out front. The Stone Haven Cottage will have you longing for simpler times and tall glasses of lemonade. Easy cottage living invites you to slide into vacation mode. Enjoy our seasonally open swimming pool. We are celebrating the 70th anniversary of our vintage Esther Williams pool this summer! See if you can spot the original plaque as well as her signature ledge that goes all the way around the 9' deep end and the steps with her name on them in the shallow end. We take great pride and extra care in opening the pool each season. As this is northern Michigan, our season is short, Memorial Day to Labor Day so don't miss out! The pool isn't heated but gets full sun so the pool water is warmer than the lake. We provide lounge chairs, umbrellas, pool floats and a perfect backdrop for your photos. Our grassy courtyard has space for games and a gorgeous view of Portage Lake if you just want to stare at the water for a lazy afternoon. The courtyard firepit is a great place to roast s'mores after dinner, meet your cottage neighbors and toast to a great vacation day. We provide the firewood so you can just relax. Bring your own hammock for a lazy afternoon in the shade of the large trees out back. Things to note: Outdoor cameras are used in public spaces such as parking areas, sidewalks, pool, courtyard, etc. There are no cameras in guest cottages. Neighborhood Overview: The cottages are located in the quaint town of Onekama. The town's hot breakfast spot is just across the street, open daily! Two blocks east is the EZ Market gas station and market featuring a meat counter, groceries and beer/wine/liquor. Walk another block to the Blue Slipper, the locals favorite watering hole. Occasionally you will find a food truck in the parking lot there. To our west is the Village of Onekama with the usual post office, bank, hardware store, village park and boat launch. You will also find some super cute shops... park and walk... Anchored Designs, Patina, Lakeside Treats and Mac Beth, for eats there is Papa J's ice cream and Yellow Dog Coffee. About a half mile farther is the Glenwood Restaurant, celebrating 20+ years, reservations recommended. Do you like to play tennis? Courts are just two blocks away on Main Street. Morning walks? Enjoy the quiet village and surrounding neighborhood. Our Village park is about a half mile away, next to the ice cream shop, so take a walk, grab a double scoop and wander over to the little sandy beach to watch the boat traffic. Biking? M22 is a popular biking route. The road has a nice shoulder for bicycles and a ride out to Lake Michigan is just 4.6 miles (one way). Plug in Captain John Langland Park into your map and be sure to stop at the artesian well along the way to fill your water bottle. People drive for miles for this refreshing cold water. Bird watching? Arcadia Marsh, a Great Lakes coastal marsh, is a robust and vibrant nature preserve and home to more than 250 bird species, including 17 species listed as endangered, threatened or of special concern. Bring binoculars for the ¾ mile walk on the boardwalk. The beautiful Arcadia overlook is close by as is the Baldy Trail for hiking the dunes. Approx 10 miles from the cottage. We truly love what we do here and look forward to hosting you. Please reach out if there is anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable. You may follow us on Insta @greenbuoyresort.
Cozy and warm was exactly what we were looking for, and Wendy’s cottage was beyond our expectations! It was decorated in such a cozy way with lots of attention paid to every detail. It was immaculate! Wendy was very gracious to us! We definitely hope to visit again in the future.
Absolutely loved this cottage! It was the perfect getaway! Super cozy and warm! Wendy was the perfect host! She was so welcoming and had amazing communication! Wish we could’ve stayed longer! We will definitely be staying again!
Great host, gave good local recommendations, flexible on check-in/check-out, clean & tidy, would definitely stay again
We had a great fall color tour at this sweet little place. We were greeted by Wendy and her husband right away. They had a bon fire going outside and engaged us in conversation. We stayed in cottage #2. It was so thoughtfully decorated and laid out. It was perfect for a couples getaway. They bed was very comfortable (Tempur-Pedic type). There were a lot of small amenities that made the stay much easier. Wendy had a lot of good ideas of local things to do and see and where to eat. The place was very clean and comfortable. We would definitely go back!
