This is a charming apartment that is truly part of Naxos castle - this of course means it comes with all its little quirks that Ursula and George teach you. It was a wonderful place to stay and you feel right in the centre of Naxos. As other reviews said, it is bigger than the pictures make it and the aircon/fans kept everything cool. Be prepared to take stairs - there is an elevator in Avaton but we found this a bit tricky to find. They were very accomodating with our late ferry, and we could store our luggage and have a later checkout. Overall a wonderful stay!

Despite finding the flat difficult to locate, Ursula was very helpful in finding us and guiding us up to the flat - even as we had found ourselves having to take the stairs up to the flat, not knowing there is a lift available to do so on the other side of the castle. She even helped carry our luggage up the stairs to make life easier which we were so grateful for, and even stored our bags in her flat after checkout! We were very pleasantly surprised to discover the flat is actually part of the castle itself, and information re the history of it was found in the flat (made lovely reading)! The flat is much bigger than it looks in the photos, and is so charming with great levels of comfort. To get to and from the flat, the lift is located in the Avaton restaurant - which is on a rooftop with stunning views at all times of day. Public transport to beaches and villages was easy to navigate if no rental car. Also highly recommend boat tour to Koufonisia and Rhina cave if time!

It's a beautiful old house and is even better than what it looks like from the photographs in the listing. It's a great base for exploring the winding alleys of the old town. The ferry and public bus station are a 10-min walk away.
