The Uba house, built in 1864 by Luisa's great-great-grandfather, is a charming accommodation in the center of Porto that offers 3 suites with private bathroom and kitchenette, decorated with unique pieces from the family estate. Each suite pays homage to a Portuguese wine variety and each stay includes an offer of a wine for tasting. At Uba you can have a glimpse of the past, hear the creaking of the floor, feel the Porto tradition. The Uba house, built in the XIX century by Luisa's great-great-grandfather José Maria de Castro, is located in an area where, 150 years ago, grapes were grown to produce wine. The name Uba, stems from Uva, the Portuguese word for Grape, and has been spelled phonetically to mimic the local accent. Uba is a tribute to the family, the welcoming spirit of Porto and the wine that José Maria de Castro enjoyed sampling. The house underwent rehabilitation works in 2021. The priority was the preservation of the building and its charming features, whilst adding elements of comfort. The suites are located on the 1st and 2nd floor without elevator. Uba is the permanent home of Luísa and Granny Lai who will make you feel at home.

Very nice stay! I would highly recommend this stay for 2 people only for 1 or 2 nights. After 3 or 4 nights it gets a little tight or feels a little small the room, even if one is out and about all day. More like a very nice hotel room than an apartment.
Really loved staying here .. not for the light sleeper as there was noise from the street ( maybe just an unfortunate night to stay as there were parties, seagulls and fireworks) but a gorgeous stay Truly
Luisa went above and beyond in all aspects of our stay. She was easy to find, there to greet us with a glass of port and a delicious piece of cheesecake on arrival and was so welcoming and informative. Our suite was perfect for our needs as we spent our days exploring Porto and knew we had a lovely room, with a comfortable bed and great shower when we got home. Luisa even booked concert tickets for us on request and booked our bus tickets to our next stop when online payment became challenging. Thank you so much for a excellent experience Luisa!
Our stay at Louisa’s place couldn’t have been more perfect. The location was great just outside the old town (walking distance and near metro station to get to the airport for example) lovely bakeries to grab breakfast / and some nice restaurants just around the corner. The room was so beautiful and incredibly clean. Luísa is one of the best hosts we have met: we were welcomed with a glass of lovely port and chocolate cake and she had so much great tips for a wide range of restaurants and sights. We were sorry we had to leave. An absolute recommendation!
Luisa helped us by picking out the best spots in Porto. Her hospitality helped us from having a good stay in Porto, to having an amazing stay. Upon arrival she poured us 2 glasses of port and talked about the amazing location where Uba is located. The location was only 10 minutes away from the old town which also was very nice. When we return to Porto we will definitely be staying at Uba once again.

The location is fantastic for exploring the city on foot, with the city's main icons such as Torre dos Clérigos, Livraria Lello or Casa da Música all less than 20 minutes away on foot!
The property is very close to the commercial area of Cedofeita, the arts district of Miguel Bombarda and the medieval church of Cedofeita.
Carolina Michaelis and Lapa Metro Stations are a 5-minute walk away and there are several bus stops within a 1-minute walk. There is paid parking nearby.

Luísa and Granny Lai live at Uba, both passionate about welcoming their guests. Luísa loves summer, traveling and enjoying a glass of wine at sunset in good company. Granny Lai loves cooking and makes the best coconut cake in the world! In the entrance hall of Uba is the portrait of the great-great-grandfather José Maria de Castro who built the house over 150 years ago. This portrait will be the starting point to introduce you to the history of the Uba house and family.
