Airbnb gold!! This is an incredible house in an incredible location. The house itself is extremely homely and comfortable and jam packed full of interesting antiques and artwork. The kitchen is well equiped and there are more than enough gadgets and cooking equipment for the chefs amongst us. As good as the house is, it’s the view from the rustic garden than is the thing that makes this listing a winner. All I can say is it’s is 100 times better than any of the photographs. As an early riser, every morning I was greeted to the sight of hot air balloons above the citadel and in the evening as the town and citadel are lit up there is no better place to be than outside with a glass of rose! This listing would suit a large family or a group of friends. We were a family of five adults and all had space and room to feel like we were not on top of each other. All in all one of the best AIRBNB locations I have stayed at. Don’t hesitate to book with Jean Christophe, who is the most charming and communicative host.

We were two families in the house for a week - and we had an amazing stay. In the hot French summer, the place is perfect. Big house with plenty of rooms for everyone, and an big pool with amazing views over the charming village - which is only a 10 minutes walk away from the house. The kitchen is super well equipped, and the new grill is a pleasure to barbecue on. Everything was super clean and nice - and Jean-Christophe is the nicest possible host👌 I can only recommend staying here 100%! If possible we would come back next year again😎👍

What can I say? A truly relaxing stay with fantastic views across Forcalquier and the surrounding scenery. We were travelling as a group of 6 adults mid-August for just shy of two weeks. We arrived at Jean-Christophe’s house late on the day of arrival, but Jean kept great communication and was there to welcome us on arrival, with a few chilled bottles of Rose I must add! Even though late into the evening Jean provided us the most thorough run tour of his house, showing us through all of the rooms, how all of the lights worked, where the storage was, which cutlery was his favourite and which windows /shutters to close and open at different times of the day to get the best cool breeze into the house – Jean is so house proud that he wants to show you all of the antique furniture, talk about when the house was built, show you his paintings etc. Given the late arrival Jean gave us the slimmed down welcome (although the most thorough welcome I had ever received) so offered to come back in the morning to guide us through the local area – which we of course took him up on as none of our group had been to Forcalquier or the surrounding towns previously. Jean went through and assisted us in putting together a rough itinerary for the week including picnics at the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Lure, trips to Aix-en-Provence where we were advised to get off the main streets and admire the architecture and joinery and Sisteron where the Citadel stands strong to this day – as well as telling us where to get the best local Melons. Jean-Christophe’s house is beautiful. You can expect from an antique dealer that there may be a few antiques in the house, Jean-Christophe’s house is packed with gorgeous furniture and paintings, almost to a point that we were worried to sit on the sofas or use the side boards. Although the kitchen is small it is very well equipped and has everything (and more) that you would need to entertain a large group. We had all of our meals on the terrace so didn’t use the internal dining table, had we had visited in the colder months we obviously would have. The house has 3 large double bedrooms all with ample storage and two with en-suites. The bedroom without the en-suite is within a newer section of the house, this section has its own door opening up into the corridor where you have the fourth bedroom (When we stayed in Aug 21 there was a bunkbed, but I understand Jean was rearranging this room) along with a big walk-in shower and separate WC. As we were three couples one couple used this ‘wing’ as their own, this part is perfect for parents with children but could cater for two adult couples easily. The outside of property is bordered with tree lined walls / fences and has an electric gate to enter (we felt very secure and safe). The front of the house has the drive way and car port with the rear of the property having several tiered patio areas, with a large canopy of the main patio / seating area to provide shade. The pool is lower down and gets the sun until around 6/7pm (in August), there were four sun loungers along with additional cushions used to create a soft lounger on the floor. The pool is alarmed for insurance purposeswhich was a slight pain for a group of adults as is re-alarms itself after a short period if it doesn’t feel movement in the pool – so even if you are in the pool on a Lilo it wont pick you up and re-alarm, only to go off again the next time you shift around. Easily silenced for a short period and better to be safe especially for peace of mind if travelling with young children eager to swim. The entire property was gorgeous but one of the best things that Jean doesn’t advertise enough are the views over Forcalquier and the surrounding landscape. Each morning we would wake relatively early and watch the hot air balloons float through, with the sun rising and the gorgeous back drop –the views and serenity would make us re-visit in a heartbeat. When we arrived, the pool lacked shade as there was only a few surrounding trees to hide behind in the midday sun however we mentioned this in passing to Jean-Christophe and the next morning Jean returned with a brand-new parasol on wheels. First class service! Don’t worry though, Jean wasn’t a house owner who is constantly visiting and making you feel like you cannot relax, Jean was around for 2 days at the start and we then didn’t see him until the morning we left, but he was always on the phone or emails when we had any queries about the local area. Forcalquier is only a 10-minute walk down the hill until you are in the main square where there are dozens of shops, cafes, boulangeries, restaurants, pharmacies, etc. There is a great atmosphere in the village, when we were there, they were celebrating the liberation of WW2, where they had live performers on a stage in the main square, surrounded by old cars from the WW2 era. Along with boule tournaments and the weekly Monday Market. The Citadel is a 10–15-minute walk from the main square, to get to there you walk through the streets which have various shops, restaurants and galleries. The views from the top are superb. Its hard to identify any negatives, as you can see, we were extremely happy with our stay and had a fantastic relaxing time, if we were to really try to pinpoint one it would only be the small barbeque that Jean Christophe had at the property. Even then, Jean told us that as of next year there will be a built-in barbeque – he even showed us

Très beau séjour à Forcalquier dans cette très belle propriété qui domine la ville et vous offre une vue magnifique sur la Citadelle et les massifs alentours. Piscine, équipements pour la maison et la cuisine, terrasse...et les conseils de Jean Christophe ont contribué à nous faire bien profiter de cette semaine de congés. Proche du centre ville, boulangerie, principaux commerces et marché accessibles à pied. Le projet d'aménagement d'un espace ombragé autour de la piscine et d'un espace barbecue apportera un plus à l'existant. Belle découverte !

We had the most wonderful 11 days at Jean Christophe’s house! He was there to greet us when we arrived and gave us a tour explaining everything we needed to know around the house and pool. The panoramic view over Forcalquier is magnificent! The location is quiet and private, with lots of nature around, but not too lonely. The house is very nicely decorated and features many antiques. Two bedrooms share a bathroom, the two other bedrooms (master bedroom upstairs, bedroom downstairs) have ensuite bathrooms. There is plenty of storage space in the rooms. All the rooms have wooden shutters to keep the heat out during the day. In the night the air cools down to around 18 degrees, which ensures a healthy sleep. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we enjoyed cooking in most of the evenings. There is a nice bakery in Forcalquier in walking distance and a Big supermarket just a 10 min drive away. On our nights out we took a 12 minutes walk to Forcalquier and chose one of the restaurants. It is wise to make reservations beforehand, especially if you are a larger group and would like to dine out on the weekend. We all enjoyed the pool! That’s where everybody was staying most of the day. To quote the children: the best thing about this vacation was that we didn‘t do any outings - says it all, doesn‘t it? The water quality in the pool (10 x 4m) is very nice. Soft and not aggressively chlorined. We had perfect a holiday. Thank you Jean Christophe!
