The beautiful hills and valleys of Teesdale and Weardale are both between 20 and 30 minutes’ drive away, and walkers will find themselves surrounded by some of the most scenic countryside that County Durham has to offer. To the north, Hadrian’s Wall can be reached within an hour’s drive and offers a more historic trail for walkers to take. The Derwent Valley Railway Path leads east towards the outskirts of Durham and is very popular with cyclists, whilst the Waskerley Way leads west and on into the vast open spaces of Weardale. For guests wanting to enjoy a spot of history and culture, the cathedral city of Durham offers plenty of attractions to enjoy at all times of year. Also of interest nearby is Hexham’s abbey, or the open-air Beamish Museum. For lovers of retail therapy, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead and the Metrocentre are a short drive away.
