The house still has old sinks, carved stones, vaulted ceilings and thick walls which attest to its past history. Some say it was the location of the old Merovingian castle. A well-restored place, much loved by the creative, colour-conscious family who have owned it for 50 years. A refined atmosphere, with high ceilings, white walls, and a great feeling of luminousness. Everywhere are lovely kilim rugs and pieces brought back from the owners' travels – fine old wooden chests, antique wardrobes, contemporary art and books. As a friend said, Esparon is pure magic. An extraordinary medieval house in a hamlet in the Cevennes mountains, with magnificent views and calming atmosphere. Martine has created a lovely, welcoming home with everything one needs for a special experience. Lots to explore in and around the area, but ideal to just relax on one the many outdoor decks,. This was my third visit here and I doubt it will be my last. Highest recommendation!
My husband and I decided to spend our "honeymoon" with our families and friends. Martine's great house offered the ideal accommodation for 11 of us. On top of the hill, the Bastide is the perfect hideaway. I preferred staying around the house, exploring the seemingly never ending rooms, while others took a different hiking route every day. The location and landscape are extremely diverse and beautiful. If you love nature, swimming, hiking or just relaxing on one of the terraces, the great Bastide should be your choice. On top of that, Martine took care of the communication very well and gave great recommendations for the area and how to handle the house.
La Bastide d'Esparon is a haven full of breathtaking views in this very spectacular medieval hamlet perched on an eagle's nest at 700 meters high. With its Roman Chapel from the XIth century, its pine forest on top of the village and its 25 houses and its running fountain and communal oven.
La Bastide d'Esparon is located in the untouched and intact hamlet of Esparon which is a 'Village Classé'. It is a dead end, you reach it after 3 kilometers uphill and then you are at 700 meters--the eagle’s-eye views are amazing and it is genuine rural France overlooking the National Park of the Cevennes as well as the high plateaux of Les Causses.

SWIMMING:In the summer, there are many rivers to go to for great swimming, beautiful water and no one along the river:
1/ 10 minutes away where you can go and swim.
The nearest is at Breau, easy trail to get to. Great for kids.
Another one is au Coudoulous, great in the morning.
2/ 20 minutes away: L'Arre: At ganges in the direction of Saint-Laurent du Minier.
3/30 minutes away: Le Cirque de Navacelles. A spectacular canyon with miles of river, where you can picnic and walk on trails.
4/ Laroque. Canoe-kayak. for half a day or a whole day, you can go canoeing in the easy gorges of L'Herault. A lot of fun.
Not dangerous.
5/2 hours away. Near Montpellier, the beaches of the Mediterranean. You can go for the day and bathe in the Mediterranean. There are some beaches where there are very few people. Maguelonne for example. As soon as you walk away from the parking lot, there are kilometers without anyone. It is not like the Riviera. We go for the day.
One last thing, La bastide d'Esparon is located at 700 meters. Even when it is very hot, there is always a nice soft breeze at the hamlet and the house because the walls are very thick never gets too warm inside.
You will need a car to reach the hamlet. The house has a private parking in front of the house.
There is good public transportation from Nimes or Montpellier, and then really cheap buses to Le Vigan which is 8 kilometers where you can go and get your guests.
45 minutes by car from Nimes, Montpellier for flights, TGV bullet train and public bus transportation.
3 hours by TGV fast bullet train from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
自我介绍
I am a fine art photographer. I like spaces and colors. I was born in Paris, France and presently live in New York. I live in 2 houses which are my havens and which I offer as a host when I am not there.. When I am not in my house in New York (from which I work and live with my one of my sons who is 29), I am in my house in the South of France. The house in the South of France is a family house where I have spent my summers since I was 5. I am a photographer working in New York. This has been my country house where I have spent many summers and it is a perfect contrast from the city life. I like the perfect calm and the luminous space I have in this house with the great views on the rolling hills and the light on the mountains of the Cevennes and the high plateaux of the Causses. This house is my sanctuary. I love the evenings watching the sunset with a glass of rose on the southern terrace, going to the rivers with a picnic, hiking in the mountains. A perfect antidote to NY.
