Sam was very helpful and responsive during our stay. However, upon arrival, we discovered that the sofa bed was broken. This meant we missed one bed for the first night, which was quite inconvenient, especially since we had traveled far and had a 10-hour flight. Despite this setback, we appreciated Sam's promptness in resolving the matter. The next day, he delivered a mattress bed to us. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but the inconvenience of missing a bed on our first night left us a little disappointed.
Honestly when we pulled into the neighborhood I was a bit nervous as it is not the best area but we had no issues at all. The house is exactly as pictured and fit the 5 of us very comfortably. Sam was very responsive when I messaged him with a few issues. If you have an issue with hearing your neighbors then this is not the place for you, we could hear the neighbors and their children running up and down the hallway as well as just talking at a higher level. We did not mind after the second day as we just got used to hearing them. But the home itself was very nice!
Sam's place was in a good location - right outside of the city. The neighborhood looked a little sketchy at first glance but it was quiet and the neighbors were friendly. The house itself was nice but there were a few things that needed a bit of sprucing up - the couch was fairly worn down, the dresser in the master bedroom couldn't be used because the drawers wouldn't open, and a few of the cabinets in the kitchen had some damage. Some of this is understandable but they are also easy fixes. The internet was spotty and there were some days when we couldn't connect because the connection was too slow. Overall, it was a good place in a great location.
Overall we had a very good stay. The beds were very comfortable and we loved how every bedroom had a ceiling fan. The kitchen was beautiful. We enjoyed cooking and hanging out in the space. The only downfall in the kitchen was the water pressure. We ran the dishwasher three times and the dishes were still dirty so ended up having to hand wash them. The front bathroom also had the same issue with water pressure in the shower and the toilet didn’t want to flush. Also, the furniture in the living room definitely needed some TLC. There were multiple broken chairs and the couch was broken and so uncomfortable. You would be better off bringing an air mattress if you are replying on using the couch to sleep on. The front door was iffy as well and wouldn’t stay shut without using the deadbolt so made us feel a little uneasy at times. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. Parking was easy to find and everything we wanted to do was a quick Uber ride away.
Mid-City/Tulane Corridor- Part of America's Oldest African American Neighborhood & The Birthplace of Jazz
The Tulane Corridor is home to many Medical Complexes, Jazz Bars, Local Food Scenes, and Vibrant Cultures! Perfect for professional travelers and event seekers! Right down the street from the Superdome! This Cottage is in the Heart of the action! Easy access to and from the interstates to make travel by car extremely comforting and easy.
The Cabin is in the heart of everything without being in the middle of the traffic and confusion of downtown living. The French quarter is a casual 10 minute walk* or a $5 uber ride. The neighborhood has seen its share of ups and downs, but is fast becoming one of the most up and coming neighborhoods in the city. The house is within easy walking distance of several bars and local eateries, including two of New Orleans' most historic restaurants, Willie Mae's Scotch House and Dooky Chase's and right around the corner from the renovated Carver Theatre and famous Ooh Poo Pah Doo Bar. We are a few minute drive to Whole Foods and within walking distance of at least two convenience stores.
Entertainment
Various celebrations like second-line parades and jazz funerals are only a few of the lively ways Tremé honors its heritage. Tremé is also home to several museums dedicated to African American life, art, and history, as well as Armstrong Park, a memorial to the great jazz legend Louis Armstrong.
Music
The Tremé is still one of the major hotbeds for live music in New Orleans. This neighborhood invented jazz, and today it is still dotted with underground music clubs. The Andrews family’s (Trombone Shorty)famous Ooh Poo Pah Doo Bar, right around the corner from the apartment.
*If you walk, you will pass the Claiborne Overpass which has become a safe haven for the homeless. This isn't something you should fear, but something I wanted to make clear for the sake of total transparency.
