Stokenham · 整套乡村小屋 · 2室3床1.0卫 · 可住4人 · Cosy cottage with tranquil garden terrace
Dating from the 17th Century and thought to be the first house in the village, this cosy cottage retains many of its original 400 year old features. It is well equipped providing all you will need for your holiday. Sitting between Dartmouth and Salcombe it is only a mile away from the South West coast path and Slapton Ley nature reserve. It is the perfect base for walkers and nature lovers. Through the front gate a few steps take you up onto the pretty garden terrace with a table and chairs for alfresco dining. Here you can sit and relax after a days walking or beach combing. If you are lucky you might even hear the Skylarks. Entering the cottage porch there is a cupboard for shoes/walking boots and a fridge freezer. From here another step leads you into the modern fully equipped kitchen which includes an electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. A further two steps take you into the lounge/diner with an exposed beamed ceiling and inglenook fireplace, character slate flooring, comfy sofas and smart TV with DVD player. A dining area with a wooden painted table seats four. Leading off the lounge is the bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and heated towel rail. A winding staircase takes you up to the first floor where the two pretty and characterful bedrooms are found. The twin room can be used as a single or twin depending on the number of guests. Each room has their own wardrobe and chest of drawers with wooden shutters on the windows. There are views of the village from both bedrooms and sea glimpses from the single/twin. **Potential guest- please introduce yourself briefly in your booking message and let me know who will be joining you during your stay. Please also confirm that you have reviewed all property details, and acknowledge house rules. I look forward to hosting you and simply want to make sure that the cottage suits your needs.
We had a lovely holiday at Samantha's beautiful cottage. It was very clean and had everything we could have needed. Great location too for exploring the Devon countryside.
Lovely cottage, has everything we need for our stay, Samantha and Russell are very helpful. Good base for exploring the beautiful coast.
We really enjoyed our time at The Little House, it was a great spot for exploring all the beaches. It was decorated really nicely throughout, - was lovely and clean and had a very thoughtful welcome basket! The place had a cosy welcoming feel and I can thoroughly recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed a magical month of May, staying in the enchanting Little House thatched cottage. Stokenham is charming village, with a beautiful church, a good pub and a expansive hillside village green. The Little House is quite central in the village, tucked away in a quiet lane. The enclosed small front court yard garden is a gem. Perfect for sitting and eating outdoors and edged with boarders, pots and climbing plants full of colour. The Little House is well supplied with all you need in the kitchen, the bathroom, lounge and bedrooms. The hosts really had thought of pretty much everything to present a lovely, cosy, very comfortable South Devon thatched cottage.
Stokenham village is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Heading off to the coast, which is about a fifteen/twenty minute walk, you can pick up the South West Coast Path and explore this beautiful and dramatic coastline in all its glory. Start Point lighthouse is well worth a visit and is probably one of the best coastal walks in South Devon with its stunning scenery.
Slapton Ley nature reserve at Torcross is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in the South West. Rich in history and wildlife, it offers a wonderful opportunity to see nature close up.
Slapton Sands is perfect for beach lovers and walkers alike and is famous for the role it played in the Allied preparations for the D-Day landings.
The Start Bay Inn at Torcross provides excellent fish and chips and seafood specialities on the waterfront.
The iconic town of Dartmouth is nine miles away (a bus from Stokenham can take you there) with its many restaurants, shops and galleries.
Sitting alongside the Kingsbridge estuary (five miles away) is the friendly market town of Kingsbridge. Here you will find a three screen cinema, swimming pool and lessons in paddle boarding on the estuary. Many local events take place here throughout the year including the Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival and the Kingsbridge country show.
A few minutes stroll from the cottage is the village pub serving excellent food and real ales or if you venture a little further (ten minutes walk towards Torcross) the South Hams Brewery can be found with their award winning ales at The Tap House Stokeley.
Unfortunately, parking is not available at the property, although free on-road parking is 1 minute's walk away, within the village. Loading and unloading on the lane outside the cottage is not a problem.
