Chateau-d'Oex is the capital of the Pays d'Enhaut holiday region. Halfway between the Bernese Oberland resort of Gstaad and the Freiburg town of Gruyeres, Chateau-d'Oex sits at about 1000m above sea level and enchants visitors year-round.
Thanks to its favourable microclimate, Chateau-d'Oex has become a hot-air balloon metropolis: passenger flights are offered all year round and an international competition in hot-air balloon flying takes place in January - a colourful spectacle with thousands of spectators.
Summer
A beautiful pre-Alpine hiking area is located in a small valley south of Chateau-d'Oex: La Pierreuse, the largest nature reserve in western Switzerland with rocky areas, forests, rich flora and shallow lakes. For mountain biking enthusiasts, the Pays-d'Enhaut offers a large network of signalled routes in the footsteps of the 1997 World Cup for bikers. On the river Saane you can indulge in white-water sports: canyoning, hydrospeed, canoe/kayak or river rafting. And between the wild gorges of Vanel and Gérignoz lies one of the most beautiful rafting routes in Switzerland.

• Espace Balloon - Balloon Museum on the history of air and balloon travel in Chateau-d'Oex, from Jules Vernes to the adventures of Piccard.
• Musée du Vieux Pays-d'Enhaut - the local history museum in Chateau-d'Oex is dedicated to the art of paper-cutting which has been popular here since the 18th century.
• Mike Horn Family - Course of adventurer Mike Horn in the form of a family treasure hunt with attractive posts about the requirements of expeditions.
• Le Grand Chalet in Rossiniére - the 1754 chalet with 113 windows, in which the famous painter Henri Balthus lived, was long considered the largest in Switzerland.
• Etivaz-Alpcheese - is produced in the alpine huts of the Pays-d'Enhaut in a cauldron above the wood fire - visit the cheese dairy "Le Chalet" in Chateau-d'Oex.
• Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahn (MOB) - the Pays-d'Enhaut is located on the panorama railway line that connects Montreux on the Lac Léman with Gstaad and Zweisimmen in the Bernese Oberland.
