Ivan was very proactive and responsive in communication throughout. he also allowed flexible check in and check out for which we are very thankful. The air conditioner works great and we really needed it. Ivan was very helpful to find us a bird guide. the gripes: some of the stuff in the kitchen such as sugar and coffee is really old and we could not use it. for the price we paid, hot way was NOT in the listed amenities and we were kinda bummed by that.

This is a fine place to stay in a great location. The house conveys a strong sense of history and is well-stocked with guides and informational materials. The place was comfortable but could use some updating. Specifically, the kitchen is lacking a lot in the way of useful implements. We were anticipating cooking (at the suggestion of the host) but struggled with one poor frying pan and very little else. There were two bowls for a family of five. Supplies were limited as well - we had to buy our own hand soap. Ivan is a very friendly and helpful host and Gamboa is a fantastic destination and worth the time to stay at for a few nights. After two weeks traveling around Panama, our impression is that Ivan's place is falling behind in level of comfort and basic expectations. It felt like we were paying B&B prices for hostel level comfort.

Ivan’s place is a historical gem in Gamboa. Ivan is also a great collector and that reflects in the set-up of his home. We were taken back in time with so many things. His house was easy to find and very clean spacious and nicely set-up. He also provided good suggestions for birding and also arranged a last minute guide for us. When we come back to Panama, we would definitely like to stay at his place again. Thank you Ivan for sharing your wonderful place with us.
